Any film directed by Ridley Scott, starring Russell Crowe and Denzil Washington is bound to grab you attention and for all of it's two and a half hours "American Gangster" certainly does that. The film however whist being a very good one is not a great one. Denzil Washington plays the bad guy as erm Denzil Washington, whilst Russell Crowe as the detective seeking to bring Washingtons bad guy down sports yet another strange haircut that adds nothing to his undoubted acting ability and charisma. At no point in the film do you actually feel engaged with either of the two leading protagonists.
Ironically even though both actors are performing well within their abilities, they will no doubt be nominated again when the Oscar band wagon rolls back into town.

A movie that kept reminding me of classics such as "Serpico" "The Untouchables", "Scarface" and even "Goodfella's" and that may be why the film, though very good, is not imo a great one. Made 20 years too late and nothing we haven't seen before.

Woofs rating 7/10

:D

I watched that and thought it was very good 8/10 my rating, I liked it.

Watched Rushour 3, very funny worth watching.

Also I'm watching a film called 'One Way' halfway through it, I'm impressed so far with it, good film.

30 days of night, another very good film, I liked it.

it was alright, kinda like braveheart, gladiator and lord of the rings all rolled into one......but without the emotion of those films

entertaining though and i could see the main actor as a future james bond

Watched 'Kingdom' yesterday, I thought it was a brilliant movie. Starring Jamie Fox and Jennifer Garner.

About Saudi Arabia and the terroism on the American soil, in the Saudi. Fox and Garner are FBI agents sent their to investigate the atroscity.

Good movie 9/10. :)

I think Woof was spot on with his review of American Gangster. It was definitely an engaging film for it's running time and a very good story. As woof says though you struggle to connect with the characters good and bad and I think this is a failing of the Director  as it's been said before about Ridley Scott films.

Very good though and gets 8/10 from me.

Also seen a film called Fracture starring Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling.
The story revolves around a man (Hopkins' character) who is married to a younger attractive woman. When he finds out she's having an affair he returns home early one day and shoots her.
It is then the job of the assistant DA (Gosling) to prosecute him in what appears an open and shut case. The catch being that he's only got a week before he starts a new high powered job and all of the cast iron evidence is soon dismissed as useless. What follows is a cat and mouse game between Gosling and Hopkins. Gosling needs to find the murder weapon before the case is thrown out and Hopkins goes free.

As legal thrillers go this is a very good one as it's not weighed down with loads of legal shite and focuses on the race against time aspect.
Hopkins puts in a very good performance (although with a really fooked up accent. One minute he sounds american, then a bit Welsh and toward the end of the movie he's got a very thick Irish accent  ??? ). Gosling is ok but it is hard to believe him as a high flying lawyer at times.

Overall it's about a 7/10.

i think gosling is absolute class tho. has anyone seen half nelson? check it out if if you havent, and as for his new film:

Lars and the real girl:

Lars (Ryan Gosling) is an awkwardly shy young man in a small nothern town who finally brings home the girl of his dreams to his brother and sister-in-law's home. The only problem is that she's not real - she's a sex doll Lars ordered off the internet. But sex is not what Lars has in mind, but rather a deep, meaningful relationship. His sister-in-law is worried for him, his brother thinks he's nuts, but eventually the entire town goes along with his delusion in support of this sweet natured boy that they've always loved.
