Went to see Eastern Promises with Viggo Mortenson last night.  Quality stuff, a little graphic and violent though.

I really enjoyed it mate, if I was nitpicking I would say the ending was wound up a bit too quickly. Apart from that I thought it was a cracking film. 7/10

7/10 ?

F.uck me your worse than Woof surely its at least an 8.5.

True story an all, and Frank Lucas was released in 91, after bringing down all those dirty cops. Lucky boy him, 70 years in prison or 15. Fairplay to him.

Okay, Viggo Mortenson plays this enigmatic silent-ish gangster type with links to the Russian mob.

Naomi Watts plays a midwife.  She delivers a baby girl whose 14 year old Russian Mother dies in childbirth and she wants to find out who the babies extended family is and return the baby to the rightful people (grandparents etc...).  The mother of the baby kept a diary in Russian, which Naomi Watts takes and decides to keep hold of it so she can one day give it to the baby so she can see where she came from.

Oh yes, this diary has stuff in it which can harm the Russian mafia...

Take it from there... a very good film this is, with a twist towards the end I didn't see coming but the film is not something that will leave you feeling good afterwards.  Very violent, involving razors, knives, pliers and Mortensen's character is quite chilling...  Fucking brilliant fight scene played out in a gentlemens sauna as well.

Can't believe that there are mobster fuckers out there like this who exist.

Anyway, well worth a watch.

Now why don't we see more movie reviews like this in the media. Much better than those stupid star systems!!!  :p

Watched "Interview" tonight a good film with Steve Buscemi. Strange film really as there were only really two characters in the whole film(it helped that one was Sienna Miller), but I enjoyed it and it had a decent twist at the end. Not one to see at the cinema but a good film for d/l or dvd.

Seen A Mighty Heart last night. Angelina Jolie stars as the wife of  an American reporter is held hostage by Al Qaeda. Its directed by Brad Pitt and is a true story but i found it very boring and drawn out in places.

Sad story, bad film

Watched Halloween 2007 last night, bit gruesome (for me) but I was very surprised that it was actually quite good. Gives a lot more background into the Michael character and keeps your interest 6/10

I also watched Sunshine. Si-fi movie about transporting a huge nuclear bomb to recharge the sun. One to miss, cr@p 3/10

finally saw die hard 4.0, and surprisingly enjoyed it. im a fan of both Timothy Olyphant and justin Long, and Bruce Willis re-hashes lines he says in EVERY other film (not just the die hard ones) but its a decent thrill ride, not too long and enough action to keep you going... oh and maggie q is gorgeous

Watched "American Gangster" last night . Any film directed by Ridley Scott, starring Russell Crowe and Denzil Washington is bound to grab you attention and for all of it's two and a half hours "American Gangster" certainly does that. The film however whist being a very good one is not a great one. Denzil Washington plays the bad guy as erm Denzil Washington, whilst Russell Crowe as the detective seeking to bring Washingtons bad guy down sports yet another strange haircut that adds nothing to his undoubted acting ability and charisma. At no point in the film do you actually feel engaged with either of the two leading protagonists.
Ironically even though both actors are performing well within their abilities, they will no doubt be nominated again when the Oscar band wagon rolls back into town.

A movie that kept reminding me of classics such as "Serpico" "The Untouchables", "Scarface" and even "Goodfella's" and that may be why the film, though very good, is not imo a great one. Made 20 years too late and nothing we haven't seen before.

Woofs rating 7/10
