just googled "once were warriors"

Was the movie I had in mind and it is a good one

synopsis from IMdb
Set in urban Auckland (New Zealand) this movie tells the story of the Heke family. Jake Heke is a violent man who beats his wife frequently when drunk, and yet obviously loves both her and his family. The movie follows a period of several weeks in the family's life showing Jake's frequent outburst of violence and the effect that this has on his family. The youngest son is in trouble with the police and may be put into a foster home while the elder son is about to join a street gang. Jake's daughter has her own serious problems which are a key element in the plot.

released 1994

That's the one woof.... I thought it was a very very good movie. Must be at least 10 odd years old
     **** edit 13 years old :D  . Thanks woof *****.

Another couple of movies that I really enjoyed were...
1. Searching for Bobby Fisher.
2. Finding Forrester

Finally got a decent copy of the Jet Li's movie "War"

Whilst not quite reaching the levels I was hoping for it is never the less a fairly effective if someone routine action film. The plot has been ripped off from Kurosawas "Yojimbo" (which also served to provide Bruce Willis with a another paycheck via his movie Last Man Standing). There's plenty of bullets and fists flying with Li as usual blindingly awesome in his mastery of martial arts and yet somehow I felt the film was just a reworked  collage of scenes I'd seen in other movies.  There is a slightly surprising twist at the movies climax but it's so brief and had such little impact that I was left wondering why they bothered as by the time the film sprang it's surprise I didn't really care.

Despite it's cliches and leaden script I don't want to be to negative it is a decent enough movie if you like car chases, guns, assorted martial arts and popcorn.

Woofs rating  6/10

That's a wicked film! I've got it on video. The guy who stars in it went on to play Jango Fett and all the clones in the new Star Wars films. Some kick-a$$ Mauri tattoos in that film and there's a sort of sepia glow to the print making the movie feel old, tired, hot and tense. The acting is good, but could be better in a couple of spots and the storyline is powerful. I'd give that film:

That's where I'd seen him before! I thought Jango Fett looked familiar.

Thanks Ace.... It was driving me crazy...  :D

I was just re-watching Star Wars 1 because of that guy from Once Were Warriors (before I remembered that he first shows up in Episode II) and I had a big surprise. Avram Grant is in it! I kid you not! His voice is done by Brain Blessed, but he plays one of the characters! Check it out...

Good likeness.... though in all honesty, I thought Fat Sam ran Avram a close second!

He isn't. Well, at least not Chinese produced epics like Hero and Fearless, which is what he first started off doing.

IMO, actors like Lee and Chan made their best stuff in Hong-Kong based films. All their Hollywood stuff has calmed them down. Just go and watch Chans Police Storys and Project A or Meals on Wheels to see what I mean. The stunts are mental.

I watched "I now pronounce you Chuck and Larry" last night, not my cup of tea really. Few good laughs coupled with a load of gay jokes. I was disappointed as I usually like Sandler films. OK for free but I would have hated to pay money to see it. Seemed more of a gay propaganda film than a comedy at times.

Seen Hostel 2 last night and I though it was a better film than the first one but it was less gorey.

Watched Prey the other night. Basically if anyone has seen Open Water (you know the one with the sharks!!) well it the same thing only this time its Lions.

What ever you do do not watch this film, really really bad.

3.10 to Yuma - great western film but with the most unbelievable ending ever. If you can suspend logic and reasoning and you like westerns this is a great film. If you can't the ending will give you nightmares its so bad.

Watched "Rise" (bloodhunter) last night , fairly run of the mill vampire type movie starring Lucy Liu and Micheal Chiklis (the Shield)

synopsis from SmartCine
Sadie (Liu) is an investigative reporter who stumbles upon a dark underground cult that is attracting young Los Angeles hipsters. Lured in by the promise of wild parties, these kids start turning up dead, and when Sadie tries to get to the bottom of their gruesome murders, she becomes a victim herself. She awakens in the morgue, neither dead nor alive, consumed by an overwhelmed craving for blood, and hell-bent on finding the twisted killers that made her this way.

Detective Rawlins (Chicklis) is sick with rage and grief, his only daughter another victim of the cult. He soon crosses paths with Sadie, and the two join forces, stopping at nothing until they’ve exacted their revenge...........

best bit of the movie was probably the odd glimpse of Lucy Liu's tads, they're small :(  but perky :)

I guess the fact that colin firth was the leading man should have been a clue that the movie would be a load of dross. In fact it was worse than that , possibly as historical action movies go the lamest thing it's ever been my misfortune to watch .

See the billboards are up in London , the poster looks good SO just a reminder folks ,don't be fooled, the Last Legion is absolute Sh'ite  .
