I thought we established the league was the priority this season. Why is Torres not playing? What about Babel? Sissoko and Alonso is our weakest midfield combination - surely Stevie should start if Mascherano is just back from Oz? Crouch can start the champions league matches to keep him happy.
We should have our strongest side out today.
I'm fairly certain that the changes are due to injuries....maybe not full on injuries but Gerrard has his broken toe and Torres had a knock too.....Benayoun in for Babel makes sense once you take Gerrard out the midfield so I think it is pretty sensible. Yes our "best" line up has Gerrard and Torres in it but if they're not 100% why risk them for 90 minutes?
If we need them they are there and can come on to help us clinch a win

Ever the optimist...hehe
I think with benayoun we have enough creativity in midfield and Voronin has shown an eye for goal lacking from any of our strikers of the last couple of seasons

Ever the optomist ?
f'uck off mate , I'm a realist .
We're shading Portsmouth but have created f'uck all. Only a poorly taken penalty has kept us on even terms.
Unless Rafa changes it we're looking at 0-0 which I'm sure Portsmouth will settle for.
