Saw Tarentino's "DeathProof" last night . Entertaining enough but surely no where near the brilliance of Resevoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction or even the under rated Jackie Brown. How ever many references to other films and tunes from the seventies you cram into a movie there's no substitute for a good story , something this film sadly doesn't have. You can expect the massive PR/Ad offensive for the movie but do yourself a favour and don't expect to find Tarentino at his most inventive. The film will go down well with a big bucket of popcorn and a large coke , entertaing but hardly stimulating.

Basically
The film is set in Hong Kong. The triads infiltrate a young member into the police academy and over the years he rises through the ranks gaining in power and influence , all the time he is of course feeding info to his Triad and frustrating police efforts to bring them down.

Meanwhile when the Triads first infiltrated the police academy the police themselves were embarking on a similar plan by infiltrating one of their cadets into the Triads.

Over the years it becomes apparent to both parties that each has a mole in it's ranks , the main priority then becomes one of each party trying to identify the others mole.

A great plot , loads of suspense and some cracking action.

Hollywood did a remake called "The Departed" maybe you saw that ?

I took a dislike to it when I first watched it (having loved the original) but on a second viewing I did think it was a very good movie and it would have been in my all time favourites if it wasn't for the fact that I found the chinese version just that much better. I guess it's just a matter of taste , you've probably deduced that I'm a huge fan of Asian cinema (Hong Kong, Chinese, Japanese and Korean) .

Thanks Woof, one other thing is subtitles or English.

Yes I've seen the departed, I thought that was good so I may enjoy infernal affairs.

I don't watch a dubbed movie if i can possibly avoid it Bamaga. The dubbing on asian film is inevitably farcical in addition to which you tend to lose all tone and inflexion. Must admit ,with subtitles at times you have to do a bit of speed reading to keep up with the script and the action on screen but you get used to it. By way of a bonus you learn a bit of another language , I've picked up a fair bit of Chinese and Japanese from years of watching their flicks . Remember feeling dead chuffed the day I realized I could distinguish between Mandarin and Cantonese purely from watching movies.

:)

Do check out Infernal Affairs (as you have a copy) I'd liketo hear your opinion of it.
