to all those non believers that said chelsea would win today and knock us off top spot, i have only one thing to say:

"we're still top of the league, i say we're still top of the league.

One time, I saw a man looking at me, yes, with his eyes. And then, he, he picked up a tube. And he looked, in the tube, and he made the moon big, inside the tube. The moon big inside a tube! Waahaha... Aaah. Telescope.

sorry to say i must add this. the fact that everyone here seems so excited about us being top after just 4 games is kinda sad? shows how deprived we have been. theres 34 more left. its a great start. enjoy this while it lasts but lets pray it carries on this way.

Well it just shows what happens if you hit the ground running, take the first game of the season seriously and give yourselves a chance. Since then there has been some rotation, (rather more than I would have gone for, but it would be churlish to suggest that it has affected the team up to this point, it hasn't) but it has been largely sensible. Important partnerships have been allowed to grow and currently we look to be just about the best team in the league.

All that said, while you can lose the league in the first half dozen games (as we proved so painfully last season) you can't actually win it. Both Chelsea and Man Utd look off the pace at the moment but they will definately get better. Equally, there are more testing teams ahead for us than Sunderland and Derby, but you can only beat what is put in front of you. We are slowly but surely becoming THE team to beat in the early stages of the season, and this will bring added pressure which will need to be handled.

I think we are definately good enough to go very very close. By very very close, I don't think anyone is going to win it by ten points this term, there will be a couple of teams fighting it out in the final weeks and we have the capabilities to be one of them. Unsurprisingly, I think the key is team selection and not allowing ourselves to get carried away with our "squad". Such is the strength of the personel at the club right now that I wouldn't have too much problem with just about any first eleven Rafa comes up with. Provided he picks nine or ten of those in just about every game (in fairness he could probably put me in goal against Derby and we'd still win), and all of the fit ones if there are any injuries then we might just do it.

Well they have a good keeper
Centrebacks as good as any
Finnan is a good rightback
The best central midfield in the league.
a very promising young winger in Babel
top class forward in Torres

It would require Benitez to :censored: it up tactically (e.g. negativity away from home) or a long term injury to Torres for them not to challenge.

got to agree, more worried about the scousers than anyone, because they look a much better side than last year - they are begining to resemble the scouse of old and those :censored: ruined my childhood. puts our 8 points in perspective though cos we have played absolutely :censored: and have been missing our forward line for most of season. internationals break has come at a good time for once,

Liverpool have added quality this summer as opposed to quantity.

As much as it pains me to say it, I can see it going to the last couple of weekends again, but this time it will be Liverpool instead of Chelsea, and if we thought the nerves were gone at the end of April, imagine what its going to be like if its the Scousers.

A few small words of wisdom from our friends down the east lancs road, it looks like we are ruffling a few feathers
:) Obviously not all of them are showing signs of nerves, there is the usual, they will bottle it, what if ? gets injured blah, blah, blah, even so its nice to know they are a little bit nervous.

That words Destro, are familiar to me because they look a lot like some of the stuff written about them last year in this very forum.

For me, it's not time to look up to much to the table now, that must be done from March, but it's a good thing the archrivals are anxious, especially if that state of mind also affects the team.

A lot of work must be done yet, you have to be lucky with injuries, and it won't be easy, Rafa just warned us recently it was going to be very difficult. But so far, so good. :)

Agreed Sabre, I only posted the stuff that made me smile a little, the stuff that made me laugh out loud went something along the lines of "Yeah well just wait till they get injuries!".

I am pretty sure I saw our Captain and Vice Captain sat in the stands watching the game because they are in fact injured ?

I know :) it made me smile too

About injuries, well one thing is 2 weeks and another 2 months. That reminds me a discussion I had with Stu I think last season. He said that without Gerrard, we'd be 8th in the league or something. I disagree, but at the same time I know that if he's missing for 2 months, that will mean less points for the team sooner rather than later. Even with this deep squad.

If i were Rafa, i'd just tell those players not to look at the table at all. Just win game by game.

The next three league games are I believe Wigan, Birmingham and Pompey.

LFC have to believe that they will muller all three of those clubs.

Have to be ruthless, but not arrogant. Just have some self-belief.

Pompey away could get tricky.  I would settle for 3-0  :D

The England internationals are a blessing in disguise.

For twelve glorious days, Liverpool will be at the top of the Premiership.
