Reporting posts to moderators. - A couple of pointers.

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby bigmick » Mon May 07, 2007 10:10 pm

It struck me this morning (my time) when I first logged on and got the usual string of automatically generated PM's "reporting a post to a moderator" that something has to be said. I've not had a word with the other mods yet, but the situation as is, is just plain daft.

Given the forum is going through a turbulent period to say the least, with various spats and old rivalries seemingly taking over every thread it seems a bit petty in my opinion to report a post to a mod because some bloke has told you you are talking sh!te or whatever.

That's if I can even find what the complaint is about. I got a couple of pm's just now and I've flicked through the page in question and I can't for the life of me find out anything thats wrong. I'm not saying don't complain if somebody is out of order, but somebody saying "ah feck off" isn't going to get a warning from me, it's real life after all. My point is, the minute some people see the first sign of anything untoward, BANG! they hit the "report the post to a mod" button. I've gotta tell you lads I've got better things to do with my time and I'll bet the other mods have too.

Even fecking Stu and Peewee send these PM's "reporting a post to a moderator" FFS (though thankfully not very often it has to be said). The whole forum has gone fecking "report a post to mod" crazy. Then nine times out of ten, when somebody complains because such and such has told him to feck off, called him a w@nker or whatever, you go to the previous page and see that the bloke who complained, previously called the fella the self same thing! I tell you it's fecking madness!

So my new rule is this, and this applies only to me and not to the other mods. If you've got a complaint, pm me, or pm all the mods in one hit. Tell us what it's about, who called who what, if there's any history, if somebody's hawking tickets, a WUM etc etc. At the end of the day, if you can't be ersed to let me know what it is you're complaining about, I can't be ersed to do anything about it.

Lastly, can everyone please stop abusing everybody else and talk about football FFS? ???? I reckon if everyone on the forum who has a problem with others made a mental resolution that they are no loger, ever, going to abuse just one person (pick one who you've had spats with in the past) then it would sort itself out in no time. PM them, let them know that despite the fact you hate their guts, you are no longer going to get involved in slanging matches with them. That'll sort it in no time.

Well thats unbelieveable!  I dont envy ya for a minute. This kind of behaviour shouldnt be happening all the time.
Tell the teacher, touting, call it whatever, unless its completley scandalous -the mods should be left alone.

As I've said somewhere else all the mods I've had the pleasure to know both as a poster and when I was a mod the only thing they want is to have a forum as good as possible.

And they deserve a rest. A good mod is indeed a like a good ref, the more unnoticed the better. But players also have to help with no nasty tackles, and no divings.

Only the mods will know what's the share of guilt I have of the time they're robbed attending things they don't feel like attending, but I want to apologise bigmick for it (whatever the share is) and make him know I'll make my best to give him as less work as possible.

Keep up the good work, bigmick.

So, so tempted to report Mick's post. :p

Good shout though. Stop being such whining p*ssies, everyone. Restrict your chat to how good it is to be an LFC fan with a European Cup final and a potentially absorbing summer of transfer activity ahead of us. :buttrock

If you can work in a mention of how much of an idiot Frank Lampard is, that'll do your post no harm either. :D

Was thinking the same...........that 'Report this post to a moderator' link at the bottom right of his post was getting bigger and bigger......... it might as well say 'Don't push this button'

:D Some good responses and I wouldn't expect anything else. A couple of people have pm'd me and said "well you're obviously talking about me and ..." when in reality I'm not. What I'm saying essentially, is complain by all means but just take two minutes of your time to let me know what the feck it is you're complaining about. Ultimately, if you can't be bothered to spend two minutes of your time, then it probably tells you all you need to know about how important your complaint is.

One last point. I named both Stu and Peewee in the original topic which was probably a bit out of order. Neither have got back to me yet although no doubt they will, and I just wanted t make it clear I wasn't really having a pop, just pointing out the irony. Bizarrely, both of them will on occasion report a relatively trivial insult, and then take a barrowload of abuse off somebody else and say feck all. and it has to be said of course that as both dish out plenty, they should expect a bit back as well.

Mick, I'd like to complain about Mikz's sig (see above).  The quote from "Lost" at the bottom is a bit hard to read and he has "[/quote]" right after his sig, which really gets on my t!ts.  Please sort him out with a few cards or, preferably, a day ban. :nod
:D

In all seriousness, mate, this is a more than reasonable request.  I don't know if it's spring time, the jitters about the upcoming final or some kind of copycat 'Stu syndrome' but this place has gone a bit barmy of late.  I've  played my part in this and so you have my apologies as well, big fella.  Keep up the excellent work!  :buttrock

well mick obvously i am annoyed because i think i have done this maybe 3 or 4 times in tha last 3 years, however to choose to signal me out, also as those things are essentially pms they should be kept that way, especially by a mod, if you dont want to deal with complaints then dont be a mod, hey why not remove the 'report' button while you are at it.

i am trying to do things by the book here, i was offended by a comment and rather than get into an argument i thought i would let the mods do their job and deal with, seems i was asking too much, would you rather i respond and let the thing escalate?

Hmmm. Like I say Peewee, sorry if mentioning yours and Stu's name caused offence. It was meant to be a statement of irony, humour even to demonstrate that as I said in my original post "the whole forum has gone "report post to mod" crazy" and that absolutely everyone is at it. I did also say in the original post "though thankfully not very often it has to be said" so I did at least try not to p!ss people off, sorry it didn't work.

As for me being a mod, I think you have something of a point there. It's certainly true that I don't want to deal with double figures of complaints (not from you and Stu) every time I come on. If being a mod depends on performing that duty then feck it, somebody else can get on with it becuase as I've said in the topic starter, I've got better things to do with my time.

That's for others to decide at this stage anyway. I'm hopefull that most people will see my request as being reasonable and that things can return to some form of normality. All I'm saying is don't just hit the button every time you (not you personally, every time somebody) has a problem, pm the mods and let them know why you're complaining. Somebody this morning complained (once again it wasn't you Peewee) and in trying to do my job on here properly and take the complaint seriously, I spent ten minutes re-reading the thread and I STILL have not the faintest idea what the feck they are on about. If being a mod means I'm at the whim of such people, then let the search for a replacement begin here and now, it's madness.

As for removing the button, then I would to be honest. Just to repeat once more, I'm not saying don't complain, I am saying give us a bit of a chance.

Sorry once again I didn't make my irony and humour clear enough. Maybe I did and I'm just not funny :D

again you mention lots of complaints from me and stu, also you mention to take two minutes and explain what i am complaining about, i know for a fact that i took two minutes and explained, if you go back and read it you will find exactly what i complained about written down.

i know its hard mick, like you say you looked and couldnt see anything, but also please remember what is offensive to me may not be offensive to you.

i would also like to think that these things will be kept private, like i say mick i very rarely do this but at this time there are people trying to goad me and wind me up and i want you all to be aware of that and if i find someting wrong in a post aimed at me i will bring it to the mods attention, just as i am sure others have done with my posts in the past.

joke or not, light earted or not people on here are now aware that i have complained about something and that i am not happy about, if i wanted the complaint public i owuld have posted it in public

also mick my comment about you not being a mod was not me saying you dont do a good job, i think you do a good job and i think you should stay as mod, like all good referees you are not noticed (apart fom your good posts), it was simply aimed at you complaining about complaints when thats the mods job, to deal with complaints

Recently I've been whacking the button "report a mod" because of all the touts invading the site. Do you want me to stop doing this?

thats what the button is for mate, i think the problem is people hitting the button but not writing what the problem is, when the mods get this pm it just has a link to the page where the problem is but it doesnt highlight the actual post, you need to tell the mods which post  is offensive, there is a space for you to type your complaint
