Why ?

the lyrics that were picked for a start.

IMO ruined by too much reference to 'they' - as in (we all know who btw) mattering enough to deserve a mention in one of our songs. Even if it is only once...Sounds defiant on the surface yes,  but at the same time....to me, gives an inkling towards words that suggest 'insecurity' and 'paranoia'.  Two virtues this club should and never will be synonymous with.  "They say our days are numbered, we're not famous anymore"

Then the term 'Campione' which you explained in a previous thread. Loosely translated into 'Champions'....of what exactly?

This along with the line -  "Scousers rule the country like they've always done before"  go some way to revive the untold and glorious, treasured memories of the clubs Heritage - without a shadow of a doubt its true... But we are a long way short of even standing up to the benchmark at present. Let alone crowing from the highest perch about it.

You are going to ask me what i might have suggested in place of these lines...well, clearly that is a different point entirely. The fact is. The song/chant (more apt) has been adopted and it would be fruitless to waste time going over trodden ground. The lads who came up with the song are no doubt responsible for the majority of the fine, and inspiration-ally witty songs heard across the land. You have to salute them for that. I just think this one was a bit rushed, or at the least ill conceived out of frustrations that the supporters by and large have grown reluctantly accustomed to. The lyrics lean towards suggesting those 'weak' attributes that jealousy and glorification of past achievements, not relevant ones conjure up.. IMHO.

Of course LIVERPOOL FC is all about that spirit and never say die attitude...a strong traditional club with integrity and humility at its core. Always has been. I hope it always will. But the words chosen sound like the kind of manna from Heaven that the Mancs and the Chelsea 'fans' will pick up on and use straight back at us from the stands. And this season in particular, they will have plenty of weight behind their sarcastic retorts. Sadly.

Additionally, when you look at the excellent banners and flags our lads carry with them across Europe and the Premiership...and the popularity of the songs crafted out of the whole Istanbul experience 2 years ago. I would have expected a better effort than this one.  But, like all things to all men. Everyone has different opinions. It will have an airing next week in all its glory im sure.....it just lacks that certain 'class' that so many other 'statements'  gone before it have had in abundance.

Anyway you did ask for clarification.

I did you the respect of a considered, if somewhat 'long-winded' answer. Possibly one that comes across as a load of bollox. It is after all - a Song we're on about. Then again i usually do try to explain my points first time round. And rightfully you demanded a reason as to why exactly i dont like it. But thats also 'my' right to bore the ar5e off yer    :D

I think you are "nit-picking" a bit mate , although I am admittedly tone deaf and not in your league when it comes to music etc. Champions of what? We sang "We are the champions of the World" (queen) yet I can't remember us ever winning the world club championship. Maybe the 'Campione' bit is because we are going to win the CL next month.

Like I said I am tone deaf and have a poor taste in music but I thought it was a good effort, and until we get Bob Dylan to write us a song/chant is good enough for me.

Sad mancs will always twist our words (its much easier than having an original thought)
