European memories - Which is your favourite?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I know it's a few months away, but September 14th is the 40th Anniversary of our European debut at Anfield. I was thinking about what Liverpool supporters, and the club, could do to commemorate this ? I have an idea about having a big flag, with the crest of every continental club we have ever played on. What do other people think ?

Also, what are your most memorable european memories at anfield? St Ettiene? Roma? Barcelona? I think the majority of us have been fortunate enough to experience many magical european nights down the years, and i just wandered which one you rate as your personal favourite.

I am only 22 and for me it was the return of GH against Roma a couple of years back. The atmosphere was absolutely frightening! Nobody would have beaten us that day! Further back than that, the 3-0 comeback against Auxerre was pretty special aswell.

European memories?

Well I'm only 16 and I've only supported Liverpool for a year and a half now. I do however own the 2002 - 2003 Season Review and they have extra features and i did see the Roma beating. Otherwise a like how we beat Arsenal in the 2001 FA Cup final with other star on fire :)

Also the 5 - 1 thrash against Spartac Moscow :)

For older fans who saw great Liverpool teams it has to be any one of the 4 Euro cups. I only remember the 1984 penalty shoot out against Roma in Rome.

Nothing compares to being champions, everything else is consolation.

I was only a kid but it has to be the first European cup against BMG. It was totally awesome. Unfortunately I did not go to that but I was fortunate enough to see the St Ettiene game at Anfield when supersub scored the winner, Brilliant

I've been lucky to have been to all of the European finals and supported the lads through some unbelievable 'European' nights at Anfield.
The first European Cup win in Rome will stand out above the rest purely because it was the first and in my opinion our best final performance.
Rome belonged to Liverpool that night and boy did we celebrate!
But I was also at the first European Cup game at Anfield against Reyjavik of Iceland in '64.
We won 6-1 and the KOP started to support the away team half way through the second half.
We cheered the Icelanders every time they got the ball and light heartedly jeared our lads when they got it.
The Liverpool players couldn't play properly for laughing so much.
But it was our first taste of Europe and it was all new to us lads on the KOP.
Little did we know then that our wonderful team would go out and dominate Europe they way they did.
If nothing else happens in football I will always have those wonderful, fabulous memories.

Inter Milan when we beat them at anfield was fabulous. the Celtic game when we beat them in the cup winners cup, after john hughes scored for Celtic but it was ruled offside, and the Anfield road end rained with bottles, the players had to be taken of the pitch, when the game was restarted the ref blew the whistle six minutes early, was unforgetable. But the game against ST Ettiene was the best night ever at anfield. Ive never heared the kop so loud,or an atmosphere like it.that was the night we new we would win the european cup for the first time.what a night! :) :)

Sadly,I never got to the first European Cup Final, but I was there for the other 4.
Paris in '81 was a fantastic experience...£40 for 2 nights in Paris with Landliner,£40 for £4 ticket of a french spiv in Pigalle the night before the match, phew! took the pressure off, quantities of booze to fuel a classic "On the dole, drinking wine, Gay Paris".
THERE'S A GREAT BIG BEAUTIFUL TOMORROW SHINING AT THE END OF EVERY DAY.
THERE'S A GREAT BIG BEAUTIFUL TOMORROW AND TOMORROW IS JUST A DREAM AWAY.
