wouldn't surprise me one bit. chelsea can buy whoever they want but it still won't guarantee success. he would fit into mourihno's preferred system aswell (like deco at porto).

i will have a bet now with someone on here that we finish above chelsea next season. anyone want to back me up? ???

I'd love to have a bet with you but I belive we will too. Arsenal are our only competition.

people may laugh me off here but i really feel that the new manager is worth an extra 15+ points to us. chelsea might have an open chequebook but they still have a lot of major rebuilding to do. i can see us ditching some of our dead wood but in all fairness i hear nothing to suggest a major clearout.

A clearout isn't needed yet. A new manager and fresh ideas could really change a lot of our existing squad around. Lets see what pre season brings. You never know Cheyrou could well be the Zidane.

I do. I believe we have a good core. With a few top class additions and great coaching, we WILL be there.

We need:
1. Owen and Gerrard to stay
2. Benitez
3. Cisse
4. Aimar or similar type of player who can create chances from midfield
5. Top class centre back or two
6. Maybe a right winger / midfield

Maurinho is just too freakin cocky, it will be good to stuff some cheesecake into his face!

Why the debate? Gerrard we all know is world class BUT as i often watch alot of world footie..i.e,South American,European (I) would not say best in the world...
Don't kill me for saying that please its just opinion..

Why do we always suggest players that we see in the prem week in week out are always the best in the world, (Henry) yeh hes good but not the best player in world football (Ronaldinho)sorry about spelling:D . All these players are great players but i cannot determine the best one.

Stevie is one of the best in a generation and he S.H.I.T.S on people like Lampard, I do not ever want to loose Gerrard he can in time lead us to Greatness and in time he will be arguably the best.

In the long run UNITY and TOGETHERNESS are something money cannot buy...

I think the board should reject any bid from Chelsea or Man UTD on principal, regardless of the money put on the table.

The reason being that if we give in to Chelsea now we will effectively be a second rate club and wealthy clubs in the future will know that all our players have a price on their heads.

However, I think that if and when Benetiz comes we will see Gerrard commiting to Liverpool and Owen could well sign a short term extension as well.

I would hate to see Owen going but strikers are a hell of a lot easier to replace than the likes of Gerrard, who only comes around once in a decade.

If you were offered £25 million you should take it.  He is not the best midfielder in the world. Have you heard of a guy called Zinadine Zidane.  Did you watch Gerrard last night against the mighty Japs.

I have heard of Zidane and yes i watched last night match. So what's your point?

Stevie was clearly the outstanding player wearing the Red jersey yesterday. If England could only manage a draw, does that mean the first XI should be devalued?

FYI. It is Japan and not Japs. Learn some manner!
