Allthough I have never thought of Beckham as more than an okay player, a lot of people here believed he was "world class", however surely now people see that he doesn't have much left. It was no surprise that McLaren has dropped him.

Anyway, Real Madrid are possibly the biggest club in the world, they are offering him a two year deal. IN my view it is purely for commercial reasons as Asians (who have poor football tradition and knowledge) love him and Americans (same as) are getting to know him.

It is like in formula 1 when a rubbish driver with sponsership gets a drive with a top team.

So so wrong.

I don't see there being a problem with Beckham being handed a new contract, Real Madrid are just being intelligent by keeping on one of the world's most famous footballers, they'll sell a lot of merchandise.

I'd also hardly call Beckham past it, granted he's no where near as good as he was four years ago, he is still a threat from set pieces, so he has his uses.

The acid test will be how much Capello uses him, hasn't he bought another right sided player as competition for Becks?
