For a start, i'm not a glutton for punishment or anything like that.

But has anybody read any books about the Souness era. We all know how bad it was but i'm interested in reading an account of it by an author who was actually on the inside and witnessed the breakdown of the club and the relationships within.

In the last month or two i've read Kenny Dalglish's autobiography, two of Gerard Houllier's, also a book a mate of mine wrote who used to be a journalist years ago, detailing the Evans 1994-95 season.

I know there is a book ABOUT Graeme Souness because I can recall a book signing in WH Smith on Church Street years ago, but I want a book about his time in charge of Liverpool.

That period was one of the lowest i can remember as a Liverpool fan. Some of the players that arrived were not even close to being good enough for Liverpool FC.

I'm just interested to read about it that's all. It might give us a hint as to why he and Phil Thompson do not get on at all any more.

Out of interest, has anybody ever heard any rumour through the grapevine as to what actually happened between these two when Souness sacked Thompson? They are both sworn to secrecy by the law aren't they? Somebody must know though!!!

I can't believe you don't know!
While Souey was getting his pipework rebuilt we played the mancs at Anfield. The aftermatch ****** up in the boot room had Thommo and his cronies and Kidda and his cronies. Kidda asked how Souey was doing and "I'm All Right" Thommo came out with the claim that Souey was finished and that the job was his - he was doing most of it anyway!
Kidda went straight back to Old Twatford and told Fergie who called Walter Smith at Rangers straight away - Walter was Souey's mucker- He comes straight down the M6 to the recovering Souey and tells him whats gone on.

On his return Souey clears the deck with the board and Thommo walks the plank only to sue "the club he loves" for breach of contract , hoping to get a million or two - the court heard the full story and awarded 18 grand which says it all.
Needless to say they don't like each other too much.

It is so sad to remember Souness' time at Anfield as the manager...

He is one of our greatest midfielders ever, although he did dot stay until the end of his career with Liverpool, I am sure that he is passionate about the club.

Alan Hansen once described Souness as full of passion for the club, ambitious and thrives on pressure. This last element was something Hansen can do without, and he readily admitted that he does not have the "bottle" to becoma a club manager.

His player purchases were terrible, the only thing was the costs were never as high as those under Houllier. Is Souness really that bad a judge of talent? Perhaps he came to Liverpool too early, he should have come after 1997...

I don't really remember Souness as a player but I've seen the clips and read about him. Definately one of the ALL TIME great LFC players.

don't rate his managerial skills though. Should have left Mark Walters and him at Rangers.

Paul Stewart had a great 1991 FA Cup Final when Gazza went off injured after a horrible tackle by him on Charles. Forest scored from that free kick.

If I remembered correctly, Stewart then inspired Spurs to win in his 'withdrawn' striker role. Stewart is a combative type of player. Perhaps Souness saw too much of that side in Stewart which reminded him of himself when Liverpool were kings of Europe. What he didn't see was Stewart's awful passing...

Considering the condition Souness left us in, perhaps in hindsight Roy Evans was hard done by. He created a very entertaining team (Fowler and Collymore's partnership etc.) and should have won the '97 title and perhaps the '96 league.
