Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Interviewed by L'Equipe today Houllier is quoted as saying

"since the start of the season" he had felt vunerable
"You must understand that there's 28 former Liverpool players and coaches who collaborate with the media"
"Sir Bobby Robson told me during our match on the day of our last match against Newcastle:"You've got people on your back who won't give up'"

don't know the full 28 but am sure that they all played and coached their hearts out and still eat drink and sleep LFC unlike some of GH's signings! otherwise why should they comment?

All right, so now it is the ex-players fault that he failed, not injuries, referees etc.

I heard he singled out diouf as a major reason for his sack, sounds like when he blamed Ginola for France failing to QUALIFY for the 1994 world cup, you know the tournament they won when they ditched him.

He also says he left to take pressure off the players, NO - he was told to go because he was taking the club backwards.

He is still trying to spin the truth (6 trophies etc).

I still think he is a bluffer and wish he'd just shut up and leave with the millions he earned at LFC.

A bit rich talking about people who "collaborate with the media" - Houllier spent more time talking to the press than anyone in football.

GH should go into politics, problems and failings are never his fault, always somebody else's and everything has a positive spin on it!! Tony Blair should be worried !!  :)

John Aldridge is with the ECHO and he listed 21 of the former players. here is an extract of his column:-
Here's the ECHO Sport guide to former Reds in the media during Houllier's six-year reign. Houllier mentioned 28, but we're stuck on 21.

1. Mark Lawrenson, BBC pundit and newspaper columnist.

2. Alan Hansen, BBC pundit and Telegraph columnist.

3. Ian Rush, ECHO columnist.

4. John Aldridge ECHO columnist, Radio City and Sky pundit.

5. Alan Kennedy, Radio pundit.

6. Ronnie Whelan, Sky pundit.

7. John Barnes, Five TV presenter.

8. Kenny Dalglish, LFC Magazine columnist.

9. Ray Houghton, Sky pundit.

10. Ian St John, Radio/ Sky pundit/ newspaper columnist.

11. David Fairclough, ITV summariser.

12. Jim Beglin, ITV summariser.

13. Gary Gillespie, Radio summariser.

14. Jan Molby, former ECHO columnist/ radio summariser.

15. Graeme Souness, Sky pundit.

16. Barry Venison, ITV pundit.

17. Nigel Spackman, Sky pundit.

18. Phil Neal, Sky pundit.

19. Tommy Smith, ECHO columnist.

20. Stan Collymore, exradio summariser.

21. Paul Walsh, Sky pundit.

Do you know who the other seven former Reds in the media are? If so, send your suggestions to Echo Sport, Liverpool Echo, PO Box 48, Old Hall Street, Liverpool L69 3EB. Alternatively, email us at sport@liverpoolecho.co.uk

He even closed his article by asking who the other missing 7 former players who were reportedly on Houllier's back were!
