Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Thing is id rather have a player whos got the desire and attitude of the likes of Fowler and the recent Bellamy , on the cheap
Than have some expensive 20m 50,000 a week money grabber who cares f.uck all about the club.. Doesn matter how much you spend quality is what counts.
Transfer prices these days are just beyond a joke anyway, Heskey to wigan 6m come ?? nuff said

i agree sack parry lol... come on i have been waiting for some news on investment for cash injection for rafa to use and for the stadium as well... its irritating me that we have to look around so freaking carefully to spend on bargains while spurs can just splash the cash and go on

Tottenham spend more than us because they need to improve more than we do. For whatever reason fans not just from our club, are obsessed with their club spending big.

For instance Newcastle spent quite a lot of money in the last summer and won feck all. 17 million on Michael Owen and he's only played 10 games for them.

I simply can not understand what's with this spend big obsession. We blew money out of the water left and right under Houllier and it didn't work. So people complained about that and wanted us to spend less.

We spend less and buy wise and now that's not good enough. You just can't please people anymore.

Yeah Newcastle significantly outspent us last summer, they finished 7th, we finished 3rd. I personally don't care how much we spend on players, Rafael Benitez will bring in whoever he likes, and won't pay over the odd's for anyone.

Spurs did just get a huge deal with Mansion or something, they've got a good squad, although they've signed a lot of players, and most have ended up leaving due to lack of first team football - such as Erik Edman who had a good season before. In midfield they are packed with tons of players, having signed Murphy and now Zokora in the past 7 or so months. They've signed players such as Davenport, Huddlestone and Routledge who may be good English talents but aren't getting a look in.

We've spent around £8 million pounds so far this summer, and I'm sure we'll spend some more before the end. It's not a matter of what a player costs, you can get very good players from abroad for very cheap prices (Alonso, Sissoko, Reina) of course we need to maybe become more and more active and try and sign a right winger before the end of the summer.

I'd rather have a cautious aproach. We might be a big club, but if you overspend and it doesn't work out - you're up sh#t creak without a paddle as you end up with players on massive wages who you then can't shift.

Have any of our previous succesful managers gone on a stupid spending spree?? I dont they have. I'm talking about Shanks, Sir Bob, Fagan & Dalglish here. They've bought good players (and some :censored: too!) but they didn't go looney like Chelsea do or Spurs/barcodes have but fk me did they win stuff!?!

Keep the money in the bank and buy players with passion for the red shirt, win the league and then Rafa can send Mouriniho an email that says:

Dear Jose,

FUCK YOU!

Love Rafa

We all no from previous experience what happens when you pay big money for dross. We've still got Diao on our books ffs. I'm much happier with the approach Rafa is taking. If we spend big you can be sure that he would have checked out all the pro's and con's beforehand. We've still got loads of time to get the right players at the right price.

slightly off topic here's a line taken from a report on the win at Wrexham...

This was a third consecutive pre-season Racecourse fixture for the Reds, who again donated their share of the gate to the struggling North Wales club.

That is another reason why this club is the best in the world. Good on you all! I applaud you.  :bowdown  :buttrock

Agreed, how we have helped wrexham shows how great a club we really are.

WREXHAM'S GRATITUDE TO LFC
Steve Hunter 17 July 2006
Wrexham manager Denis Smith has issued a public thank you to Liverpool Football Club for helping them out in their hour of need.
The Dragons hope to come out of administration on Tuesday and the club are grateful to Liverpool for their help during this traumatic time. The Reds also play their home reserve team games at the Racecourse Ground and will be doing so again this campaign for the third consecutive season.

"Liverpool have been absolutely magnificent to this football club since we've been in trouble," enthused Smith.

"We could not have asked for any more or better from a Premier League club to show that they care about football in general and not just about themselves. They have kept us afloat."
