i lived in cambridge for a couple of years. some of my happiest memories are from there.

when you say audiophile you mean the kit right? hi-fi etc.
not into the kit so much. im more interested in the production of music rather than what it is heard on.. although you are of course right in wanting the best quality.

in this day and age that seems a requisite most of the manufacturers appear happy to neglect, in favour of size/gimmicks and appearance, or so it sounds anyway.
as far as im concerned some of my best 'kit' originates from at least 15 years ago. some older.

i have a massive 7 stack behemoth sat growling in the corner..looking like part of the set of 'close encounters' at least its far too big and loud really  :)
but ill not swap it for a sony anyday!. speakers though are a different tale. i always like the old mordaunt-shorts..
heck im getting older by the sentence!!!  :D

but you are right. sound matters.

Agree with red37, I love the music rather than what it's played on. (Although am only really into pop.)

There was something 'romantic' about vinyl records. Although, I realise that cds are more practical.

When we had a break in they took my gold necklace, but left my vinyls, boy was I relieved!!  (Some burglars have no taste!)

I'm into PA, but I'm not too fussed about home systems.

Logicsystem Concert rig kicks some botty for under £10k.

You're right of course.... the music was always the driver behind the love.

In my youth, I made the mistake of listening to an outstanding system which reproduced Deep Purple's Made in Japan album to such a startling degree of realism and purity that I've spent my adult life in pursuit of attaining the same pleasure..

Currently using a Naim NAIT5i amp to drive ProAc Studio 100 speakers via a Clearaudio Champion Magnum/Alpha Turntable and cartridge that do a pretty decent job.... but being still unable to reach the proverbial Holy grail....

It's gonna be a lifelong search I'm afraid... but it's sure been a fun search....   :D  :D  :D

Pathetic i know.....

Got a friend abit like you who has to have the best system available. Every note has to be heard perfectly.
But each to his own. And I don't think it is pathetic, everyone is different.
I just have a rather naff cd player, but as long as the music is clear then that's all that matters to me. Although I hate too much treble, have to have the base turned way up high (gives me a headache otherwise!!)
