Alonso is our defensive midfielder.  A far better tackler than some give him credit for, he sits in front of the defence giving good protection, while also acting as a deep-lying playmaker with his impressive range of passing.

If Hamann goes though, I do think we will be a bit light in the centre mid area.  There would still be room for bringing in a very young or an oldish experienced player as cover there.  Of course the ideal situation for me would be to keep Didi another year.

ok, agreed john, im a little hungover so need a little slack lol.

id like Xavi if anyone just because they click together (him and alonso) for spain.

I agree also but one point has to made is that Sissoko is pretty much the same player, in the sense of the role he plays, as Hamann. They both aren't strict holding midfielders but they do offer mainly a defensive role in midfield.

With regards replacing Hamann, I see us buying someone of a lower profile not someone big. Sissoko is the best in that position for us, look how many games Hamann got last season - not many. Whats the point in buying an expensive player if he is not going to be played??

First you've heard? First anyone's heard to my knowledge... never even heard of the bloke. ???

Mind you, this is Bav for christs sake.

Before the world cup there were a few stories all be it rumors circulating. I think that was around the time you had left.

The director has also come forward a while ago and said if he wishes to leave he may for the right price.

Im also pretty sure he only has a year and a half on his contract so he would not cost that much.

And apart from that the reason I said him is because Rafa can double him up as a winger as we have apparntly signed that Somoza fella from Argentina who is also a CM.

Aimar can not play on the wing. Never has done, never will. Like John Craig said we already have Garcia, so Benitez will never sign him.

You dont know who Rafa will sign. If we dont have enough funds for another striker then Rafa coul go for that sort of player to fill the void.

Funds were supposed to be secured ages ago but it seems no one fits the bill. Dont get me wrong im sure there is probabaly behind the scenes work going on all the time regarding investment but we need it now.

If we dont start building on last season with some serious buys well fall back again like we did after we finished 2nd in the 2000/2001 season.

Yanno what, i hope we fuckin do fall back so fans like you will fuck off. You're not only clueless, you're a glory hunting bellend.

All you ever go on about is this club having money and needing money and should be signing Aimar for 5million to replace Hamann. You're a tool lad. You don't know what you're talkin about.

Given that my last post on here urged people to respect each others opinions, it may seem a touch hypocritical of me to venture that the suggestion that Aimar maybe a viable replacement for Didi is absolutely ridiculous. I can only conclude that the person who suggested such a move has never ever seen the Argentinian play. There must also be the distinct possibility that they have never seen the German play either but that's for another day.
My own feeling is that the management are probably under the misapprehension that Zenden will fill in the role once he gets fit.
