He is talking about Mascherano. He plays in Spain and is one of the most highly rated defenders around. Surley you will have heard of him Dawson???

And as for Hargreaves i doubt Bayern will let him leave now tha Ballack has left.

I heard M'Boro are sniffin around him but come one lets be honest would you rather play for the best team in Germany or a semi good team in England.

In fact he will probabaly be the captain now at Bayern now that Ballack has gone to Chelsea.

Mascherano is a central midfielder and plays for corinthians in brazil  ???

LMAO  :D

Surely you have heard of him Bav?!

Alonso is our defensive midfielder.  A far better tackler than some give him credit for, he sits in front of the defence giving good protection, while also acting as a deep-lying playmaker with his impressive range of passing.

If Hamann goes though, I do think we will be a bit light in the centre mid area.  There would still be room for bringing in a very young or an oldish experienced player as cover there.  Of course the ideal situation for me would be to keep Didi another year.

ok, agreed john, im a little hungover so need a little slack lol.

id like Xavi if anyone just because they click together (him and alonso) for spain.

Apoplogies for the rant Dawson, don't mind me I'm just a grumpy kunt with a hangover today myself

I'm not convinced with Hargreaves, never have been.  I've always questioned his selection for England, but that is mainly because he was always played out of position on one side of midfield or at right back.  But as a defensive mid he is a good effective player at club level and under the guidance of someone like Benitez I think he's the type of player who'd improve a lot.

I just don't think Benitez would consider him for 2 main reasons.  Firstly he's not very good in possession and Benitez obviously favours a holding player that can pass well in the Alonso mould, which is probably why he has been looking at that Argentinian holding player (can't remember his name).  Secondly, Hargreaves is rated highly in Germany and it would take 6-8 million to buy him probably, far too much for a back-up player I think.

I think someone like Boateng at Boro would have been a good replacement for Hamann.  He was on a Bosman too, but recently signed a new contract.  Statistics showed he put in and won more tackles than any other defensive mid in the premiership last season and he's not the worst passer either.  A player who I think would benefit from playing with better players.  Just another hungover thought :p

I think you mean that Somoza guy from Velez. Things have been quiet on that front, read somewhere he was currently training with Velez so who knows what will happen there.

That's the one, and yeah there's been little talk of that deal recently.  If Hamann does go I don't think it's a priority to replace him right away though.  It's more important to get a right midfielder and a striker in and to get rid of a few more squad players.  We can easily make it to January without really missing Hamann too much I think (touch wood).  Alonso, Sissoko, Gerrard and Zenden is enough for the time being so no need to rush out and buy just anyone to fill the role.

What the hell are you on about?

We need a replacement for Hamann, not for Luis Garcia. Where do you get this stupid, idiotic and uninformed opinion that Aimar is a central midfielder?

What makes you think he's available for 5million and what makes you think Valencia want to sell a player of that quality?

You live in a bloody dream world, wake up.

Hey, what about Luis Valencia? He's 21 and played very well for Equador on the World Cup this year.

Hargreaves would be an intersting pickup.  I think he would be a good asset but like someone mentioned i don't think we would get him for cheap.  On a personal note it would be cool to have a Canadian connection to the club.

Luis Valencia just signed for Villarreal last year, I doubt he will be going anywhere. He's more of a right-sided midfielder or central attacking midfielder anyway. Nothing like Hamann. He's seen as a good prospect and had a good World Cup, but he was absoule rubbish in La Liga the few times he played before they decided to let him leave on loan..

I don't get why some people are naming players like Mascherano. He would cost more than 15 million pounds..

There was lots of talk of Somoza signing for Liverpool and a deal being agreed, but I haven't heard anything about it in months. I checked around a couple of weeks ago also, and couldn't find anything onther than articles on LFC sites. Where as there were quite a few stories on a number of footie sites previously. Looks like they got it wrong, and took everything down...  :D

Living in Canada I would be well happy to see Hargreaves sign, but a player of his calibre would be more so as a starting role, I hardly think we are in critical need of a new midfeilder, and he wouldn't be a good back up for the price. Carrick... same thing.
