Yossi benayun to liverpool?

Liverpool Football Club - The Rumour Mill

Postby mgabby » Mon May 15, 2006 8:39 am

just heard on Israeli radio, that Liverpool wants to sign Israeli midfielder, Yossi Benayun from west-ham.
Anyone heard something about it ?

just to remind, there where two Israeli players in Liverpool untill now : Avi Cohen (starting 1979 i think) and Ronny Rosenthal (starting 1990, and for a few years). Can Benayun be the third?

I wouldn't say no. I'd still prefer SWP, but I'd take Yossi.

He's a good little player that Benayoun, nice touches and makes good use of the ball.  Funny enough when I was watching the final with a mate he said Benayoun would benefit even more by playing in one of the top premiership sides like ourselves or Arsenal.  My reservation is that he's too similar to Garcia - he's not a natural winger and his best position is probably as a second striker - a system we rarely use.  He's also quite lightweight and tends to drift in and out of games.  I rate the guy but not for us, I'd take any of Malbranque, SWP or Pennant over him.

I also remember that when Houllier was in charge we were linked with Benayoun just about every summer, but nothing materialised.  Maybe this new rumour is just the press digging up old transfer rumours again...

Have heard this rumour, but I don't think anything will come of it. Pardew won't want to sell him, and I doubt Benayoun will want to leave West Ham yet. Also as someone stated above, he is quite similar to Garcia, so not really one that Liverpool need. SWP would be better for you guys :)

He has good game against us in the Cup Final and suddenly he is linked with a move. Sounds like the usual lazy journalist needing to make a transfer story sounding feasible

With due respect, I hope not..... He's a very good player and he had a blinder against us and has probably been one of the top Hammers this year...

But he seems a little lightweight to me... One good season does not make for a potential Liverpool player..... Always a strong possibility of the 2nd season blues occurring.... Until his mental strength is proven, I'd hold off for a while and get a proven winger instead.....

Steed Malbranque or SWP will do nicely.... proven in the premiership...... Of course, Rafa probably has someone lined up already from the continent.... seeing as we've been constantly linked with names form the Spanish and Portuguese leagues.....

:D i desperately wanted riise to break him on Saturday, he was buzzing around all over the show.
I know there is better out there , but if we did sign him I wouldnt be disappointed. He has his faults, but theres one thing he can do -RUN WITH THE BALL.
I was crying out for someone to do that on Saturday.
