Just ask yourself

Mark, most fans start supporting a football team when there 5,6,7 maybe 8 years old. Now if their dads/family are footy fans then the chances are they will end up supporting the same team. I don't have kids yet but when i do you can bet Scott Junior will be dressed in Liverpool Red by the time he hits 6 months old! If a kid's dad isn't into football then chances are he will pick his own team. Now unless he's been told/influenced to support his local team the chances are he will pick a team based on either success (or glory if you like) or perhaps a classic performance on the TV or maybe base it on a favourite player. So yes you could rightly argue that ALL Liverpool fans from Bristol, London or Southampton (where i'm from) etc are glory hunters but we all picked out Liverpool when we were 7 years old for christ's sake! We then have to listen to sanctimonious pr.ic.ks like yourself (and your certainly not alone Mark) saying dumbass things like 'support your local club' for the next 20, 30, 40 years. It's all bollo.x.

Personally I must have started supporting Liverpool when i was about 6 (i'm 31 now) years old. My dad never liked footy but my uncle Brian (a wool) lived in Liverpool (in Woolton funnily enough!) till i was 14/15 and supported the Reds. I can't remember if i started supporting the Reds coz of his influence or simply because they were the best team in the land at the time. It doesn't really matter now but having to justify supporting LFC to people over the years simply does my head in.

The OOT debate sucks. I try not to get involved (or angry) but it's difficult not to.

In the same vein, that people from outside Liverpool will argue their right to support the team, its the same with people from Liverpool doing the opposite.

Its a lazy excuse that OOTers make the atmosphere worse or tickets harder to come by for Scousers, but in some cases it is true. Its completely true the other way round as well though.

Personally, I accept OOTers a lot more than I did a couple of years ago, but WOOLs are WOOLs, and they will always bear the brunt of scousers jokes. In fact people from just outside Liverpool, may of whom are scousers are called WOOLs.

Get over it.

i have no idea what a wool is leon sorry. i think if i was from liverpool id probably feel differently but being from outside i know i support liverpool purely on my own influence, not through family or geography.

no i dont go to as many games as most but trust me, when im in a pub surrounded by cheatski or gooners or whoever we are playing (and living in london that happens a lot) im still the loudest one there.

It's basically anyone who lives in the more rural areas just Liverpool as is my understanding.

I think it was initially used to refer to the "Woolybacks" from North Wales?

I thought it was a Welsh term, but it has been adapted to anybody not from Liverpool.  I think it is mainly anyone from over the water as well, i.e. The Wirral.

I didn't know that, I just use it as a term for people from St.Helens and them areas, and also for those over the water.
I tend to class people without a distinguishable accent as wools, for example mancs and geordies can be differentiated, but if you live in a little village then you are a wool.

Just ask yourself

The average attendance for my local team is roughly 100. Don't plan to support them, especially since I'm moving to Liverpool this year.

Mossley Hill is decent.
South Liverpool is a hidden gem.

The OOTer arguement is all old hat now.

Any highly successful club will gain support from around the world due to the TV coverage they get.
It goes with the territory.

Some things get up scousers noses tho. On the plane to Lisbon this year I had an OOTer reading the Sun in the seat in front of me. Also, you see a group acting like idiots who are not from the city and you cant help but think they are giving OUR city a bad name. But then again, many scousers act like idiots when supporting LFC so it cuts both ways.

However, if you are from Liverpool and dont have a season ticket due to the 25,000 waiting list I suppose you would feel resentment towards OOTers who have got season tickets.
It's natural.

Back to the thread...
For me, the atmosphere deteriorated when we became all seated.
But that's the way football clubs have gone in England.

As someone said before, the fans will be more "up" for a big game and you cant expect it playing dross like Villa.

Only professional to - play in goal (41 appearances), Defence, Midfield, Striker, and later be Director and then to be Manager (winning a Championship) - at one club

Good point, I have worked with Welsh Liverpool Supporters and they all sit there reading The S*N, it's the ignorance that these people have that pisses me off.

I suppose if getting tickets was nice and easy, and I could just sit on my :censored: and get the tickets for the big games through supporters clubs then I wouldn't want to hit stupid ooters who constantly push past me when the game is on to go and get something to eat, catching me in the face with their bags of merchandise.  I don't know why some of them bother coming the game, they don't even watch it.

I was at the match, and the atmosphere WAS subdued, but it's to be expected against sh*t sides like Villa.

I said to my girlfriend on the way home - Villa are probably the least significant team in the League for LFC.

They are of no consequence whatsoever. They have no scum anywhere on or off the pitch.

No-one to hate, you see.
