Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Big relief to wrap up 4th before the final game. I still can't believe it won't come down to that last game at Anfield. How the hell did Newcastle screw up to Wolves? I'm more relieved than elated. Bring on the Euros and then hopefully a summer of transfer activity and a bright new season!

I haven't changed my mind about Houllier despite the recent pick-up in results but i'm sure things will be better next season no matter who is the manager. I am still concerned that the crowd will turn apathetic VERY quickly next season if we don't start fast - If they do it could be another long season. I'm sure the board must be aware of this?

I'm also excited to see wot Dribble cisse can do next season (still worry Houllier is putting to much pressure on the lad + hope we give him time to settle). As for a new centre-half. I love Woodgate but we missed the boat on him. I haven't seen enough of Mexes to have an opinion. I do like Upson. Does Houllier like him? i'm not sure. Have a feeling he will be swapped for Heskey. Not totally convinced about Wright-Phillips as he has only had the one good season.

I'm pretty sure Moores will take the Tai money (i don't think Morgan has a hope - unfortunately) so it is exciting to know we have some cash in the bank. Again, it does seem a little crazy to let an under-pressure manager in the final year of his contract who could, if results go bad, be out of the job by January, spend all the cash.

It's gonna be a fun off-season lads :D

What should happen is for houllier to resign and give somebody else a go as he has made a complete balls of the job in the last 2 seasons.
He had a 5 year plan which is now in its 6th year and yet we are miles behind the top 3.
Well said scott as there really is no point giving houllier all the investment cash when he has 1 year left on his contract.
As for Andy Reid he is 1 of the best players in the 1st division and is not just a left winger as he can also play in the centre as he has done on many occasions.
He would be a bargain around the 5m mark and I for 1 would love to see him at the club.
He has had more than enough chances and money and yet here we find ourselves just about scraping the last champs lge place.
We really do need to start afresh as whoever comes in with the cash to spend could not do a worse job.
Smith to Shankly:My thigh is a bit sore, but I think I could play.
Shankly to Fagan:Tell him,Joe.He has got no chance of playing.
Smith to Fagan:Tell him to sod off.It is not his leg,it's mine.
Shankly to Smith:Oh no son.You are wrong, son. It is not your leg.
It is Liverpool Football Club's leg.

...and Owen issues gets calming down for a while since CL qualification issues was just sorted out. But many hearts will start beating again as will he be leaving if we can't cope the play off?

As much as I ultimately want to see him go, it seemingly won't happen so I'm gonna try my hardest to get 110% behind Houllier next season.

Cisse worries me with GH's track record on frenchmen who are untested in league football outside of France. For me Malbranque should be a priority target and, sorry Stu the Red, I can't envisage a successful Liverpool team without Carra in the starting line up.....he and Stevie have been inspirational this season and perfectly embody the sort of spirit we'll need if we are to move forward. In addition to this he is a much smarter and techically capable player than he's given credit for, his defensive play speaks for itsself and he very rarely gives the ball away......  :D

if we consider how far we have realy come since gh took over than i don't think he has done that badly as a manager ok some realy dodgy signings but look at wenger he has had more than his fair share of ****** signings as has ferguson so the argument over that sould stop they should bite the bullet and get shot of dioff and diao but cherou i think should stay as we are very light in midfeild if we have a nother run of injuries.

a new winger play kewell where he is most effective out on the wing and cisse and owen baros and pongolle with letallac as supper sub.  then all we need to do is look at the defence.!!

Agree on all points but one Blind, ditch Cheyrou and retain Diouf, he's a tryer and has the potential to turn a game with a bit of magic.......

Houllier is not leaving but I am concerned.

I read that the Thailand bid will give Liverpool a 40 million kitty with a large sum being meant for transfers. The Morgan bid is supposed to raise even more funds for Liverpool. Either way Houlloier will have quite a bit of money to spend.

That is the concern. While Wenger is blind to his players' hostilities on the pitch, Houllier is relatively blind when it coimes to buying players. he will blow the whole load on "potential" players who will come with fat wages and can't deliver any sort of consistency. After this spending spree, Liverpool will be back to square one with little funds left, players who can't really settle down at the club and play with no passion and the team will still play defensively with slow combersome defenders and midfield players.

Houller will come up with another 5-year plan and stick to his tactically rigid playing format and curious player training style that maked good players mediocre and great ones merely good. Will we win the championship? I don't even dare to dream. As for Europe, it will be over after the group stages.

Oh well, I have to live with the fact that Houller will still be manager... I have been supporting Liverpool since 1976, and will continue to support even with Houllier and mediocrity still around...

Cisse up front i think is going to make a massive difference to our form next year as we wont be relying on St. Michael to score all of our goals!
Cisse is a natural scorer by the looks of things  top scorer in france 3 seasons running!

Pacey Centre Half is needed and looks like Mexes could be on his way!

These two signings alone should improve us ten fold!

Then we just need to address the partnership foe Stevie G and a right winger!

I'm not Fooliers number 1 fan but he has delivered CL footy for next season despite some of the sh*te we have been playing.I'm going to lay of slagging him until at least the second week of next season :D Who knows, maybe he will rediscover  the touch that brought us the treble.
With the arrival of Cisse I would like to see us add a right mid, center mid and quick center back to the squad. If we could sign some real proven quality players for those positions I'm confident we will be pushing for a top three finish (winning outright may still be a few seasons away)
I'm already saving for our CL away games :p
C'mon you REDS !!!!!! :D :D :D

right these are the ethoughts and hopes of ice-man

first of all well done to the lads for finally getting the finger out of their ***** and playing very well over the last few games three good sloid performances and some goals to show for it! it hasnt been pretty this season but i do agree that our injuries have not helped us at all, we pratically have a full team now and those are the results we got! hence i do sympathise with houllier on that excuse but some of his other ones like ref decisions thats football get over it houllier! so were in the champs league BRILLIANT!

summer activity:
im delighted that cisse is coming he is a natural goalscorer and i agree with redtribe that he will take a lot of the goalscoring burden away from owen! but he is moe direct than heskey so i believe he will even set up more for owen as well, they will hit it off brilliantly if they both get a good pre-season behind them together!

i would really like to see mexes here i was very impressed with him when we played auxerre a few years agothe guy was class, and its no wonder all the big italian teams are chasing him(roma juve inter ac) but with cisse coming and houllier french, and roux putting a word in his ear im confident he will come! i would love woodgate to come but he wont face it lads newcastle wont let him go!
definitely sell heskey get him off our wage bill along with babbel vignal traore biscan diao diouf, if we can get rid of 5 of those 7 players that would be great, i personally would keep cheyrou he proved he can do it when giving a bit of a run in the team and he has champs league experience scored a cracker against man u a few years back! if we can get about 6 or 7million for them few players brilliant and it would reduce our wage bill.
we do need a good right mid a good attacking one who can carve open defences or get to the by line and swing in crosses easily like duff (never get him) i dont like wright philips yeah the guy is special at man city but he would never cut it in the champs league realistically! not too keen on malbranque he is not the class we need, if he were that good he wouldnt be at fulham! plus i would like to see another centre mid beside gerrard but i think thats not a high priority cos hamann will come in very useful in europe away from home etc and if we get an attacking right mid, that will be kewell gerrard and right mid all bombing forward so we need hamann to sit back!

defo keep houllier and if next season is a disaster its time for a change, but LADS SUPPORT THE GUY WHILE HE IS HERE AND WHILE WERE IN THE CHAMPS LEAGUE IF HE ****** UP COMPLETELY THEN CALL FOR HIS HEAD!

Agree with most of that but still feel that Heskey and Diouf are worth hanging onto.
Emily needs his confidence boosted and to show a bit more aggression. I felt he played as well as anyone over the last few games . And Diouf is one of Fooliers signings that i was reallly happy with,I still think he could do well for us.
With many of the team underachieving this season I am inclined to question the motivational and coaching skills rather than a players ability.
It's been a rough yearbut I think we'll all be stronger and more focussed next season.:)
