What about the 2-2 draw with Bolton this season?

OK, so I shouldn't get my information from teletext then, bloody hell...  :D

Maybe it's that we've never lost when Garcia has scored.

BigMick: did you not here Bryan Robson's comments on Earnshaw?

He said that, yes, Earnshaw could score, but contributed nothing else to the team and the goals he scored were not enough to compensate for being a passenger the rest of the time.

I did see the comments JBG but can't take Robson seriously. He actually implored Earnshaw to stay on transfer deadline day before telling the World it was Earnshaws own fault he wasn't starting, the little Welshman had scored only once in the Prem all season. Quite how he is supposed to score when he is on the bench is beyond me. As to overall contribution then yes the likes of Geoff Horsfield and Kevin Campbell will bustle and tussle and win you the odd throw in/free-kick but ultimately these won't keep you in the Premiership. It's goals that keep teams up, Earnshaws did the trick for WBA last season and this time around old "Robbo" might find himself yearning for the days when he had a bloke who contributed nothing other than regular goals.

Last year I had the cheek to say that Garcia wasn’t first 11 material in the long term because outside of his goals and movement his game isn’t good enough for someone who isn’t a striker. At the same time I said that he is a very valuable player to have in the squad, someone who could make the bench regularly and end up starting 30/40 games a season. I got an absolute roasting, but now the same people are calling for his head!

Last year people were calling him “World Class”, “The next Kenny Dalglish”, “Fantastic”, etc. These people just set him up for a fall if you ask me, he was never the player some people made out, just because he pulls off a few tricks and scorers some nice goals people got over excited. Now people are going to the other extreme and saying he is :censored: and contributes nothing.

My opinion hasn’t changed, I think he is a good player to have, versatile, intelligent movement, moving into areas where defenders don’t like to go, reads the play well, and scorers goals. But I don’t think he is first team material.

This is what Sam Allardyce said about Borgetti “Being a striker is more than just scoring goals”. If we just wanted goals then we could have signed Robbie Keane from Tottenham. Why has Keane found himself on the bench for so long at Spurs (though he is making the team lately)? And why have spurs tried to sell him? And why are only lesser clubs like Everton and Man City interested? His goal scoring record is very good, no one can question his commitment or his willingness to give 100% on the pitch. I think this proves the initial statement by Allardyce, “Being a striker is more than just scoring goals”.

“Being a striker is more than just scoring goals”, this may sound stupid, but it is clearly evident by looking at the strikers at the top clubs that this is true. I don’t doubt Robert Earnshaw’s ability to hit the back of the net on a regular basis, but the rest of his game is absolutely lousy. And though Earnshaw scored a lot of goals for W.B.A last year, I think they won only 2 out 30 games in which he played, or something along those lines. Even when it was clear that he wasn’t happy at W.B.A, no Premierships club went for him, why is that? He ended up in the Championship, and I think that’s were he belongs unless he can improve the rest of his game.

That's why it's such a great game Luke, it'a all about opinions. Mine is that Robson was wrong and the managers who wouldn't pay (the admittedly steep) 3.5 million will be proven wrong aswell. At least nobody can accuse me of picking somebody obvious. i first touted him when he was at Cardiff and predict that he will be a success in the Prem at another club. Time will tell who's right.

Seriously, I do believe that given the chance he'll repeat what he did for West Brom last season, namely scoring consistently in the Prem. Whatever anyway, feck off anyhow :D

On that, I think that this is his level, Championship.

Personally, I do Stu.

I have not seen enough from him to warrant paying £7m for him.

In terms of what he has proven, that money looks daft.

I will be happy if he can prove me wrong, fair play to him and Alan Pardew for spotting the talent. And I think we need an English type centre forward for the England team, (although I really dont care about England).

Thning is, why have Rafa, Wenger, Ferguson and numerous other top managers not moved for him ? I think thats a sign of the fact he is raw, no doubt he has potential, but all to often it never comes to fruition.

I think Ashto is another Crouch waiting to happen in my opinion. Spent most of his career in Championship. I agree he is a good striker for maybe 4 or 5 of the clubs in the premiership but we area big club with the European cup to defend as well as our status  of being one of the most famous clubs in Europe, and we simply have to set our sights high than Ashton.

From what I have seen, Ashton is a lot better than Crouch, he can do everything Crouch can do and more. I wouldn’t go as far as to say he should be playing at one of the top sides but I definitely think he should be playing in the top half of the Premiership.

He seems to have a bit of everything without having a major weakness which is what we need. What impressed me most about Ashton is his ability to play with his back to goal and the value he puts on keeping possession and finding a team mate, and at the same time he can score goals, he just has the instinct, he remind me a lot of RVN. Paying 7Mil for a player that has had 6th months of good Premiership football is a bit much for me, I wouldn’t want to risk more than 5Mil, but in the long run I think it will be good business for West Ham

One thing that frustrates me is that we paid so much for Crouch. £7Mil is an awful lot to pay for a striker like him, I wanted him, but for 4 maybe 5Mil, but 7 is way too much. I question why Rafa didn’t look at different players for that sort of price, I went on about Yakubu last year saying how he would be so useful in the Premiership and would be perfect for us because we don’t have an aggressive and strong striker, he went for 7Mil as well and look how many goals he has scored.

As much as I love Rafa, you have to ask yourself, for 7Mil, who would you rather have, Yakubu, Ashton or Crouch?
