Morientes had a decent game last night which sadly was not capped by a goal.Granted he missed a couple of chances but his runs and movement complimented the way Robbie Fowler plays.I actually believe that the best partner for Fowler is Morientes because they do play with intelligence, whereas Cisse plays like a petulant school kid.I'm not saying this is the answer to our scoring problems, but I do feel we have to allow this partnership to develop to reap the rewards.

well said supersub.

i also thought mori had a decent game and like you said he did virtually everything but score. i don't hear people having a go at gerrard for missing a penalty which everyone knows he should have given to fowler.

Classic example of the advantages of watching the match at the ground over "watching" it on the radio.

And this can't be applied to Crouch, why? ??? For me both of them do a good job and just lack that scoring, but I can't see Crouch giving us much more than Moro, to be honest.

Not to mention Cisse, and all his complaining-personal issues.

No, with respect Sabre, Crouch has done far better this season than any of our other strikers.

Its true that he hasn't been a bag of goals, but his overall play has been of a far higher standard than Morientes' and Cisse's.

Last season we had no forward who could hold the ball up. Baros ran with it, Garcia ran with it, Cisse ran with it, and 9 times out of 10 they'd quickly concede possession and the ball would go back into our half again.

This season we have Crouch who holds the ball up and brings more players into the game. Our midfielders, especially Gerrard, can advance further forward and receive quality ball. This has been the main quality Crouch has brought Liverpool and in my opinion, the signing of Peter Crouch is one of the top 3 or 4 reasons why we are so much better in the Premiership this season.

I had thought that Morientes would perform a similar role (or perhaps closer to that of what Teddy Sheringham did at his peak than Crouch) but so far, bar the odd flash, he hasn't.

Morientes is a class player, no doubt about that, and I think that at some stage before he retires Moro will reach the heights again, but its looking ominious for him at Liverpool now. I'll continue to defend him in my toe to toes with Bigmick, but secretly I feel that Mick will be insisting I buy him a pint by the season's end.

Nando played well yesterday but let's hope he keeps on improving till the end of the season.

This is why I don't understand where people get the idea that Cisse is supposedly "getting the short straw".

He's been the least indulged of the strikers because he's the least talented of the strikers. That's the end of it.

I know there's going to be people who say he's been treated unfairly because he wasn't a Rafa buy, and so he's cruelly picked on and neglected, but that analysis just doesn't hold up - witness the fact Finnan, Sami, and Kewell have all retained their places in the team despite being bought by Houllier AND then having supposed replacements being brought in by Benitez.

If pace is what we're after, I (or anyone else here) could instantly name a dozen strikers in the Premiership alone who would do a better job.

JBG's comment about Arsenal playing with a more continental/less physical style than other prem teams  got me thinking about their perrformances this season in general. I realised that although Arsenal may have already lost 9 games  they are hardly leaking goals! 21 goals against means only us and Chelsea have tighter defences!

With that in mind the win and our performance is even more impressive! :wwww

Perhaps Nando didnt do so bad after all?

I can't undrstand people using the emergence of quality from Kewell to the misfortuate Nando.

I think I was about the only person supporting Harry Kewell at the start of the season as IMO he had only played half a season without injury.  We are now seeing a fully fit Harry Kewell producing some of the form we all knew was in him.

However Morientes, as far as I know, is fit.  yet looks lightweight.. He is pushed off the ball far too easy, doesn't get into many goal scoring areas and fails to bring anyone into play.

I think if you look at Fernando Morientes it proves that the English Premiership is the hardest league in the world to pla in.  La Liga may have more "fancy dans" but football is a mans game, and right now it looks like this league is too physical for Morientes.
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

I though moro put his work load in and then some.  Rafa has said that the only way for him to gain confidents is to score goals and keep working hard..

well the workrate is there and the touch hasn't gone away but he nearly lost us two points last night . But i think rafa will have seen enought of a spark between robbie and moro to give them some more chances... it could have been 5-1 last night and this tread would be a whole lot more supportive of our players..

i have been guilty of cissie bashing but even when moro dosn't score from 4 yards i can't see cissie as a good replacement...

Also we need steve gerrard back in the middle when he came in off the right we started creating chances .. not a big shock in my book.. but with no other player good enough to play there for 90 mins we are suffering..

I thought Morientes had a fair game last night. He worked hard (he always does), made some clever runs and again showed he has some telepathy playing with Robbie. There's such a fine line between success and failure (for the team or the player.) If Moro puts the header (that went just wide) into the top corner and connects with the air-shot he had in the first half then suddenly everyone on here is singing the lad's praises and saying how he is turnining the corner. Maybe if he can get a couple of goals in consecutive games we will see the real Morientes? Confidence is everything to a forward. Just look at Kewell now. He's been our best attacking player (for me) for the past month.

Personally i think Moro will be on his way back to Spain in the summer but i still feel he could have a big part to play in Europe this season. As for why he hasn't been a success so far; To play in England i figure you have to have pace. If you lack pace then you need to be strong. Moro looks like he should/could be strong enough to play in England. He has the physique to bully defenders (even English ones) but i don't think he has the mentality to do this (a'la Heskey.) If you're lacking in pace and are not quite strong enough then i figure you have to be a VERY clever player to succeed in this league. Moro is a clever player but is he clever enough?

Fowler never had pace or strength.

Fowler was no burner but he was quick over 10-15 yards. Especially before the injuries took their toll. Certainly quicker than Moro who is predestrian at best. Robbie was/is also stronger than Morientes.
