A good football education ? At Southampton ?  :wwww

What can they teach that we can't ? If the lads keen and available  I'd grab him asap.

Apparently Walcott's not that much of a red if this article is to be believed!

Southampton's teenage striker Theo Walcott should find out by the end of Tuesday if he will be granted his dream move to Arsenal, BBC Sport understands.
The Saints are considering two bids - one from Arsenal and the other from a different Premiership club - for the 16-year-old striker.

Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool and Manchester United are interested, but Walcott is desperate to go to Arsenal.

Well if we miss out on him - so what?

No matter how good he is/can be, he won't make Arsenal any better once Henry goes.

If he really wants to succeed and get a good footballing education, it's a bit of a no-brainer that LFC is the place to be.

Look at our very recent history regarding young English players:

Redknapp, McManaman, Fowler, Carragher, Owen, Gerrard, Warnock, Thompson, etc, etc.

Arsenal:
Cole.

F*cking idiots go to Arsenal if they're young and English. ???

If he is smart he would go to a club that has a need for him right now. Not one of the top clubs.

As George Burley said, he's at the best place for him right now. He's in at the right level and isn't Southampton's best player yet, let alone good enough for top premiership clubs.

If he's signed by a big club, he will probably be left at Southampton for one, maybe two years, to develop. Then brought to the premiership after that. He's got potential, but at this stage, its insane to say he's this or that.

i agree stu

he should stay in southampton, and arsenal paying 12m for a 16 year old is crazy.thats why benitez doesnt want to get him because of his price.

i dont think we will miss on alot because we have alot of other good talent. i have watched some reserve highlights and im impressed with some of the young lads in liverpool. Miki roque is one of them and Calliste.

Bav, thats laughable lad. How long ago was that? Adams, Keown and and the others were in there 30's before wenger took over, you're talking about 15-20 years ago lad.

yeh thats bollocks but i do agree that going to arsenal isnt as bad a move for him as people on here are making out. Wenger is good at nurturing youg talent, and i think if the lad is as good as people say wenger has the ability to help him acheive his potential. Im not fabregas's biggest fan in truth, bit over rated in my view but he has been given the chance to succed at arsenal and i think if walcot goes there he will be given exactly the same. I dont think the players nationality really has anything to do with it, arsenal have developed some good young foreigners. At arsenal he'll be given the chance, if he's good enough he'll take it, if he's not he won't.

Possibly mate, but you have to look at the likes of Upson, now he's not the best, he's not better than Toure and Campbell, but is he better than Cygan?

Then there's Pennant, who even a blind man can see has all the ability in the world. He could EASILY become one of the best right sided players in the country with the correct manager. He's got pace, intelligence, superb technique and skill, excellent delivery and tracks back aswell. However, Wenger, for whatever reason (might have been his attitude) deemed him not good enough.

Pennant has a similar level of ability to Pires, its just a question of being a good enough manager to get him to show it regularly.

Also, he took Francis Jeffers and Richard Wright, both of which had there career's ruined. Now, as i've said i ain't much of a judge when it comes to keepers, but Wright always looked quality in an ipswich shirt to me. Jeffers aswell, before he went to Arsenal always looked capable of scoring a goal, now look at them both...

I mentioned the same thing in an earlier thread.
Young english players dont seem to flourish under wenger.
Cole is the exception, Campbell maybe english but he was signed when he was about 27 and already a top player.
Stu has listed a few players who were not given the oppurtunity or who have gone backwards so drastically there top flight careers look to be over.
There's also the likes of Steve Sidwell and Jerome Thomas just let go for nominal fees who look really decent footballers.
Walcott would obviously be better staying at Southampton for at least 2 more seasons but imo going to Arsenal at any stage would not be wise.
Like Lando said if he wants to move onto the next level the place to do it is Anfield.
