No matter how good he is/can be, he won't make Arsenal any better once Henry goes.

If he really wants to succeed and get a good footballing education, it's a bit of a no-brainer that LFC is the place to be.

Look at our very recent history regarding young English players:

Redknapp, McManaman, Fowler, Carragher, Owen, Gerrard, Warnock, Thompson, etc, etc.

Arsenal:
Cole.

F*cking idiots go to Arsenal if they're young and English. ???

I mentioned the same thing in an earlier thread.
Young english players dont seem to flourish under wenger.
Cole is the exception, Campbell maybe english but he was signed when he was about 27 and already a top player.
Stu has listed a few players who were not given the oppurtunity or who have gone backwards so drastically there top flight careers look to be over.
There's also the likes of Steve Sidwell and Jerome Thomas just let go for nominal fees who look really decent footballers.
Walcott would obviously be better staying at Southampton for at least 2 more seasons but imo going to Arsenal at any stage would not be wise.
Like Lando said if he wants to move onto the next level the place to do it is Anfield.

coles got better since he teamed up with cheryl tweedy  :nod   :eyebrow

i read everywhere today that theo is a lifelong gooner and henry fan... any truth in this?

And i hate to be sticking up for the gooners but they do treat young players quite well (apart from pennant who is a thug and was upsetting the dressing room)

Southampton are saying they are expecting a third party to become involved and that could be us but i cant see rafa spending that kind of money on someone so young

The third part will probably be spurs. Id like to think Rafa will make aan offer but im not too dissapointed if we miss out on him. Theo Walcott on his own isnt going to lift Arsenal from 5th above us is he? One player cannot substitue for the whole team. Man U may have Englands most talanted striker but look how how well there season is going.

God if this kid is really that good why are we not putting in a bid to match arsenal and the likes. But you all have to remember boyos is that he looks good in the championship. The premiership is a big step up.But if hes a good and has as much potential as everyone says then i dont see why were not throwing in a bid at least. He could be the next ronaldino or he could be the next ronald mcdonald.Id prefer he comes to liverpool if theres a chance he will become the player he can be.let it be at liverpool and nowhere else. And before all jump at me and say we have been bidding.we havent.Theres no one fact anywhere saying we want him.

I think owen, rooney and ryan giggs are the only players to have played well that young in the premiership. Its a samll amount compared to all the youngsters that try to make it young. Will he be another hyped up peace of poo or a potentail legend.Theres only one way to find out boys.

Walcott would love to sign for beloved Reds Jan 17 2006

By Ian Rush, Liverpool Echo

I WAS interested to read speculation regarding Southampton's Theo Walcott over the weekend. Most reports suggest he's on his

way to Arsenal. If true, that's a bit of a shock to me because I met the lad recently and he's a massive Liverpudlian.

When I was at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards in December, I was introduced to Walcott, who'd been shortlisted for the Young Persons honour.

He was a really down to earth lad. I remember thinking to myself he seemed the kind of youngster who'll go far, not just because of his talent, but because of his attitude.

What pleased me even more was the way he spoke about Liverpool. He loves the club. I joked to him he should sign for us and he admitted he'd love to one day.

Judging by the reports, Arsenal are favourites now.

I don't know if Liverpool were interested in signing him, but I'd be very surprised if they weren't.

I've seen the lad in action and there's no question he's a fantastic talent. It would have sent out the perfect signal to the rest of the Premiership if somehow the club had secured his signature.

In this day and age, it probably comes to down to the financial implications. When you see quotes of about £10m for a 16-year-old, it does make you shudder.

But I got the distinct impression from my short meeting with the player, money is the last thing on his mind.

My advice to Walcott would have been to stay at Southampton a bit longer, got a good football education at his current club and then come to the greatest club there can be when you're ready for the next step. That's Liverpool.

There are some outrageous figures being suggested with regards his value, but I've read he hasn't even signed a professional contract yet, so I'm not sure why the price was so high at this stage of his career.

Ultimately, a player decides where he wants to go, no matter how much other clubs bid.

Since I know how much he wanted to come to Anfield just a few weeks ago, and I presume Liverpool would like to have signed him, it's extremely disappointing to read that's not likely to happen.

Spion, why did you post another :censored: thread on Walcott directly above this one you started?

I've merged them, have a think and while I'm at it, stop starting one liner threads about Everton.

On the Walcott front, I think there's a lot to be said for smart bargaining.

Put £3m on the table, and agree to loan him to Southampton for the rest of the current season and ALL of next. Southampton don't have any massive transfer targets at the moment, and I'm sure three mill could be made to go quite far to strengthen their squad.

The £3m would then entitle us to first option on the kid for a fixed sum. We agree to pay three further instalments of £3m - a) one on the day he arrives at LFC, b) one after 50 first team appearances for the club, and finally c) one in the event of an England cap.

So, all going to plan - they get their £12m, he gets the club of his dreams, and we get a player with two seasons of first team experience and Chelski and Arsenal both go away and f*ck themselves. Sorted. :D

To be honest rafa doesn't like paying alot for players. I reckon we should put in a bid of about 10mil plus mellor.

But if what RAFA BENITEZ says is true then its brilliant news.
