Arsenal have had a £12m offer turned down by Southampton.

(How can they turn it down, the simple-minded b*stards!?! He isn't under contract!)

.

But Rafa would not even enter a bidding war with Wenger. If Rafa were to bid i wouldnt see him putting in more than 4 or 5 at ther very most. Considering how much we paid for Agger. Sorry guys i know hes a red but i dont think that will make any diference. There arnt even any rumors circulating suggesting he wants to come to us

Saints consider Theo bid
Mon 16 Jan (AP)

Southampton boss George Burley believes striker Theo Walcott should stay at the club - in spite of a reported £12million offer from Arsenal.

According to the BBC Arsene Wenger has followed up his interest in the 16-year-old with a firm bid.

However Burley said: "At the moment he is in the best place and is doing tremendously. The best thing for his future is to stay here at Southampton.

"To have his talent at such a young age is tremendous."

It is reported Chelsea could be willing to pay up to £15million for the teenager, but that Walcott would prefer a move to Highbury.

Wenger had earlier given a clue that a deal was close when he said he had "two signings, sorry, two-and-a-half".

Asked if he was referring to Walcott, he said: "I would like to tell you."

Wenger has already signed Emmanuel Adebayor and Vasiriki Abou Diaby during the January transfer window.

Earlier in the week, Wenger admitted he was an admirer of Walcott.

"He is a player we rate," he said. "I rate him personally and we are looking at him, yes."

If we were to offer them £5m and Theo wanted to come here would it make any difference that Chelsea had offered £15m (like Baros did to us)? Chelsea have reportedly also made a £15m bid for Simao. Surely these players that Chelsea are bidding for know that they will hardly ever get a game and they are only being bought to stop other teams having them.

He is an idiot if he goes to chelshite, he wont get a game and will rot in the reserves like Shaun Wright-Phillips

The more southampton turn down the more Theo will just run down his contract and move to the club of his choice. But the way things are looking he will go to Arsenal. However if he is a red and a true red like he claims him and his dad are then I dont see why we couldn't snach him away, He will get his fair share of run outs in our team on the right or up front.

I feel that we have a reputation for bringing through talent just like arsenal have.

Please come to Liverpool Theo you could be a legend with us. :D :D :D

Thats the weird thing about it...he doesnt have a senior contract with Southampton. He`s only sixteen. He seems to be surrounded by people who want to make a profit for Southampton FC not for himself.I swear to God, that kid can start training at Melwood tomorrow and theres nothing Southampton could do about it.He`s a kid and a tribunal would sort out the compensation.

Thats bang on Greenred.

Trouble is - Wenger will have had his bullsh*t brigade round Theo's house tapping him up.

We all know it happens.

from football365

Ian Rush claims that Southampton wonder kid Theo Walcott is a massive Liverpool fan and dreams of playing for the Anfield club.

The 16-year-old looks set for a move to Arsenal, who have reportedly bid £15m for his services, but Rush claims that his heart lies elsewhere.

Rush said in his column for the Liverpool Echo: "Most reports suggest he's on his way to Arsenal. If true, that's a bit of a shock to me because I met the lad recently and he's a massive Liverpudlian.

"He loves the club. I joked to him he should sign for us and he admitted he'd love to one day.

"I don't know if Liverpool were interested in signing him, but I'd be very surprised if they weren't.

"I've seen the lad in action and there's no question he's a fantastic talent. It would have sent out the perfect signal to the rest of the Premiership if somehow the club had secured his signature."

But Rush does not believe the teenager should sign for any Premiership club just yet, saying: "My advice to Walcott would have been to stay at Southampton a bit longer, got a good football education at his current club and then come to the greatest club there can be when you're ready for the next step. That's Liverpool."

Walcott certainly seems unlikely to join Chelsea, with reports suggesting that he would not join the Stamford Bridge club whatever money was on the table.

I've heard that we are strongly considering an offer, but we'll be left high and dry by Chelsea (obviously). I presume we are hoping Walcott's love of the reds will swing any deal. Our deal would probably involve a fee upfront followed by the majority of the transfer being payed in installments based on appearances etc etc. He will also be allowed to stay at Southampton for at least two seasons.

Arsenal are still the favourites though at the moment, the club prefer the money, the player prefers us.

I'd pay 5million to 6million and leave him at Southampton untill his 18th birthday with the option to leave him there for another year should his developement need it.

Somebody on YNWA claims we have bid £4m up front plus additional amounts which could take the total fee up to around £12m. :oh:
