I remember in the early '90's our players were constantly pulling muscles, suffering ligament damage etc. and we seemed to suffer injuries more than any other team at the time.

As Souness is the common denominator between that Liverpool era and the current Newcastle side i'm wondering are his training methods flawed and contributing to his players getting injured or is it simply bad luck.

What is this to do with LFC ?

In fairness Leon I think its a good point as I distinctly remember that under Souness we had an appalling injury list. There were times when he had 8 or 9 senior players (and by senior I mean his top players) out missing for us and he was forced to put out some miserable sides when he was in charge at Anfield.

I also remember him having injury problems elsewhere.

Whats happening at Newcastle is very reminiscent of what happened at Liverpool 13 or 14 years ago.

Its hardly a coincidence and my money is on poor training methods, with too much emphasis on running and strength work and not enough on stretching and muscle flexibility work.

There might also be something to do with Souness kicking lumps out of his own players during five a sides!

The heading on SkySports is
SOUNESS: I'M GOING NOWHERE

If ever there was a truer word said

Souness is simply the worst manager in the league now.

I have been saying this ever since Souness rushed 2 players back into action only to get them injured again in the same match (i think it was Luque and Emre). That was when results were really poor for Newcastle and Souness' job was on the line (before the Owen signing gave him some breathing space). Souness simply rushed these players back because obviously he felt that saving his job was more important than the careers of these players. Now Taylor gets injured for the same fxxking reason.

I remember Dwight Yorke getting into a public quarrel with Souness because apparently Yorke felt that Souness went in with a tackle so hard during training that it could break his leg. I think that simply sums up Souness' nature of coaching and that his 'injury jinx', which his has been blaming for the poor results, is actually for the most part his own doing.

Even without the injuries I doubt Souness would be able to make a decent team out of the talent he's got. I think Rafa, sam allladyce, martin jol, mourinho etc would have made title contenders out of the current newcastle squad.

So what is with Souness with the injuries, is it his training methods or did he just bump into a witch who cursed him ever since he left Rangers.

If it is the training methods then surely the new players coming in would have noticed it and something would have been said

He has been experiencing this problems at all of his previous clubs that I have heard of except for Rangers. There was not much news on crocked Rangers players under Souness or we there was not much news south of the border at that time when I was residing in England.

Notice how yesterday Souness was spouting on Sky Sports that he inherited a poor regime at Newcastle.....it reminded me of the nonsense he spoke when Liverpool fired him.  He said that he inherited an ageing team from Kenny Dalglish with poor senior pros....for those of you too young to remember, those senior pros included legends like Ray Houghton, Jan Molby, Ronnie Whelan, John Barnes and Steve McMahon.
