Souness - Injury prone teams

The Premiership - General Discussion

Postby Sean » Wed Jan 04, 2006 4:01 pm

It's just been revealed that Scott Parker will be sidelined for 6 weeks for Newcastle.  That means Souness has around half a dozen first team players injured.

I remember in the early '90's our players were constantly pulling muscles, suffering ligament damage etc. and we seemed to suffer injuries more than any other team at the time.

As Souness is the common denominator between that Liverpool era and the current Newcastle side i'm wondering are his training methods flawed and contributing to his players getting injured or is it simply bad luck.

They are missing some majopr players with clark, parker, owen, bowyer suspended, dyer out.

there has to be something in his training. i remember us having exactly the same problems. he has blamed it on the training pitch but thats sorted now. i thought the parker thing was differe,t Newcastle just having bad luck but i cant see souness being at the club past this month

agreed..he's crappy at coaching & tactics and even worst as a manager because he keeps on fielding players who have not fully recovered from injuries..

Yea, for Taylor's shoulder dislocation injury, it is clearly Souness's fault. Taylor's injury was supposed to be completely cured for their game against us and Souness chose to risk him. He however picked a reoccurance and is now sidelined for God knows when. There is nothing Souness can blame here.

They mentioned this on Radio 5 live... the injuries at Blackburn were a bit iffy aswell.
Souness is a naff manager brought in, it seems, just to stamp out the poor discipline.

his training methods are at fault for his teams injury woes, and it looks like he hasn't changed then one iota since liverpool, looks like his own arrogance not to change his methods will be his downfall yet again

I've been saying this for years now - he just can't train a team without injuring players in his squad. Yes I firmly believe that the problems his squads have with injuries lies at his door and the way the treats players. It can't be any coincidence that it has happened at nearly every club he has managed as far as i know, the injury to Taylor in the match against us was nothing short of bad management, in the commentary on Sky they said at the time how highly souness rated him so surely it'd have been more beneficial to the team (over the rest of the season) from the managers point of view to leave him out of the squad 'til the player is 100% fit and not rush him back and hope that he doesn't pick up a recurrence of the injury.

In the shankly biography - Shankly and Paisley introduced a exercise and training regieme that worked wonders (Dalglish followed the trend). As soon as Souness took the helm he scrapped the training regieme for one of his own...the result? The sh!ttest Liverpool team ever.

Speaks for itself really

Souness is the worst manager in the history of football. Simple as.
