If houllier stays - Another no.2

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

IF HOULLIER IS TO REMAIN IN CHARGE NEXT SEASON ,I THINK LIVERPOOL SHOULD SERIOUSLY CONSIDER A MORE FORTHRIGHT NO.2 ,SOMEONE WHO CAN OFFER HIS OWN APPROACH TO A GAME ,DONT GET ME WRONG AS A PLAYER PHIL THOMPSON RIGHTLY DESERVES HIS PLACE IN LIVERPOOLS FABLED HISTORY,BUT SOME OF HOULLIERS TACTICS THIS SEASON AND THE SEASON PRIOR WOULD TEST THE PATIENCE OF A SAINT ,WHY HAS'NT THOMPSON BEEN MORE FORCEFUL IN HIS VIEWS INSTEAD OF WATCHING AND BEING PART OF OUR SAD DECLINE ,SURELY IF YOU LOVE THE CLUB YOU WOULD SACRIFICE YOUR FRIENDSHIP WITH THE MANAGER ,WHY DOES'NT THOMPSON MAKE ANYMORE PRESS STATEMENTS IS HE CONTENT TO SIT BACK AND WATCH OUR CLUB SINK INTO ANONIMITY,SPEAK UP MAN HOULLIER NEEDS PHYSICALLY SHAKING OUT OF THIS RUT! :(

Maybe Thompson has agreed with Houlliers tactical decisions and selection policy ? If so then he is as culpable as GH. No one can know that either way can they really ? ??? Its conjecture to deliberate on PT's role and whether he has agreed or not. Its interesting to note that during Souness's reign Phil Thompson disagreed with the then LFC manager and lost his job, maybe he has learnt from that and keeping his opinions to himself......

CONJECTURE AND SPECULATION ARE ALWAYS RIFE AT A CLUB WHEN WE OUR SUBJECTED TO A WALL OF SILENCE ,BUT PERHAPS THOMPSON IS CONTENT WITH BEING ANONYMOUS ,BUT IN THE TRADITION OF THIS CLUB HE MIGHT COME TO REALISE,HIS OPINION MIGHT BE VALUED MORE THAN HE SUSPECTS,AND BY KEEPING MUTE HE WILL NEVER REALISE HIS TRUE WORTH,PLUS IT WAS HE AND NOT SOUNESS WHO EVENTUALLY PREVAILED ,AND ,JUST MAYBE HIS OUTSPOKEN VIEWS TOWARDS SOUNESS ENSURED THE POSITION HE NOW HOLDS AT LIVERPOOL,THERE ARE TWO SIDES TO EVERY COIN, MINE IS JUST ONE

Well made point there mate. I tend to think that PT DOES endorse and agree with GH's decisions. Does that mean he has to be sacrificed if/when GH goes ? in my opinion no. I suspect Phil Thompson will get the managers job should GH go at the end of this season although it wouldn't be an appointment i would necessarily agree with although i can understand why they (Board) might give him the job. From your forst post it would appear you think PT should be relieved of his duties as no.2 ? That would be harsh in the extreme as ultimately its the manager not his assistant who pays the price for poor results , form , position. etc.....

DALGLISH ,SURELY THE LAST THING WE NEED AT THIS CRUCIAL TIME OF THE SEASON IS A YES MAN ,AND IF THOMPSON WHEN GIVEN THE CHANCE TO VOICE HIS OPINION FAILS IN THAT ,THEN SURELY IN MY OPINION HE HASNT THE CORRECT ATTRIBUTES NEEDED TO TAKE OUR CLUB FORWARD ,AT THE MOMENT THOMPSON IS CONTRIBUTING TO LIVERPOOLS DEMISE BY REMAINING SILENT,AND MANY FANS ARE STARTING TO TAKE NOTICE I MYSELF INCLUDED :(

I'm not sure Thompson would or has remained silent Mate. If you watch him at games he is as vocal as anyone and noticeably more vocal than GH. You dont hear Away fans singing "Sit Down houlier" Although i concede its not as cathcy as Pinnochio !!!! :p
I just think he agrees with GH and call that ignorance on his part if you must but for him to be sacked and GH to stay would be harsh for the reasons i gave in the previous post.

The shouting he does in general play would be better saved for halftime team talks ,we all see him constantly barking orders at players while they are on the pitch, but just once id like to see the team come out after half time with their faces lit up like belisha beacons, after a serious lesson in whats required to wear the shirt of Liverpool fc,you said it yourself Dalglish ,oppossing fans depict Thompson as a figure of ridicule ,just maybe this is beginning to rub off on the players just a thought . ps happy now ZARDOZ some people our petty:D

Opposing fans often abuse Players And Managers who they dont like and primarily because those players/managers are good at what they do. You dont hear opposing fans shouting abuse at Diao , Biscan , _ Fill in as you see appropriate.......cos their rubbish. GH has to take responsibility for whats said at half time surely ? I agree that many players at LFc dont seem to come out 2nd half with the signs of having had a severe rollicking at HT. Anyway mate , good to have the debate with you but need my bed and will catch you agian :) Walk on ......

Damiano has helped ruin this side imo and i do not rate him as a coach.

There is talk of Partice Bergues returning next season. That will make a huge difference.

The way we played when he was here was first class. It was well oranised and VERY effective. I think if he comes back we'll get back to a similar level we were at a few years ago if not better.

Stu if bergues was so good why is he not at the club now?I am afraid we might have been effective a few years ago but if you think it was 1st class you have very low standards. The football we played was not much better than the s##t now.Whatever happens concerning 4th place houllier cannot be aloud stay and bringing back his french buddy bergues will give him just 1 more in a long line of excuses to have another go next season.
Smith to Shankly:My thigh is a bit sore, but I think I could play.
Shankly to Fagan:Tell him,Joe.He has got no chance of playing.
Smith to Fagan:Tell him to sod off.It is not his leg,it's mine.
Shankly to Smith:Oh no son.You are wrong, son. It is not your leg.
It is Liverpool Football Club's leg.
