BOLO BLOW FOR REDS
Paul Eaton 09 December 2005
Bolo Zenden will fly to America this weekend to undergo surgery on the cruciate ligament in his right knee.
The player will see Dr Richard Steadman in Colorado, with the operation scheduled for next Wednesday.

The Liverpool midfielder originally suffered the injury in the closing stages of the Champions League game against Real Betis at Anfield.

A club spokesman said: "Unfortunately, it is unlikely that Bolo will play again this season."

This is just so frustrating. End of.

Typical. Why oh why do we keep getting these injuries?
It always happens to the nice chaps aswell - never Essien and the like.

Zenden may have played his last game for Liverpool in that case. I saw him very much as a stop gap. A free transfer who we would maybe get 2 seasons out of...With the new signings in January and Gonzales arriving and hopefully fit from the summer (+ more signings obviously) then he may find himself surplus to requirements.

I very much doubt that. Why would Rafa bring him to the club if he was going to discard him after one season? Also wouldn't he have got zenden to sign a 1 year deal not 3? Rafa has always said that he would rotate the squad so even if new signings come in rafa is still likely to rotate.

I'd like to see Zenden back and wish him all the best for a good recovery.
On the flip side, this might give Kewell a chance to find his feet again. He has a fair bit to prove since his shaky transfer - and won't get a better chance than this, assuming he too can keep health. This is where liverpools depth will be put to the test.

Harry Kewell really needs to step up. Although in their group against Japan Aus record over recent years is 5 wins apiece and 2 draws; Croatia - 2 wins apiece and Brazil 1 Confed Cup win to Australia and 1 draw.

Funny how the people who were calling Zenden garbage after a few games are now the same ones saying it is blow to lose him.

Zenden’s form improved and he would have been a valuable member of the squad for the rest of the season. Hopefully he will be back in time for pre-season.

This may mean Mr Kewell gets another few months to save his Liverpool career. He did show a few glimpses when he first came back but he hasn’t done enough to stay in the team let alone win back Rafa’s trust. Balls in your court now Harry.
