Defensively we're out of this world at the moment. I do believe Chelsea have a better defence in terms of individuals, however i believe we have as near as we'll get to having as good a unit.
For me this area now doesn't need to improve. Don't get me wrong, should the correct player become available, by all means go for him, but the new player must have all the qualities of whoever he replaces and more and must be a very very similar mould of player.
It is however going forward, we still lack what is needed.
At the start of the season, I stated and still believe, there isn't alot wrong with this team. Even when we had this "crisis" i still believed there wasn't alot wrong. What i saw against Manchester United at the start of the season was a defence that can keep a clean sheet against any team in the world.
What i also saw is an attack that will struggle to break the best teams down. Last night i saw the same thing. Crouch has settled well, played some good games and looks like he can helps us score goals, against the lesser sides goals will come in abundance from everywhere i believe, we're looking like scoring alot now. But against the better teams, we're still going to struggle.
Last night i got the impression the only chance of a goal was from Riise or Gerrard. Sinama looked lively when he came on, had a headed chance, but by all means isn't a goalscorer. Riise and Gerrard seem the only two that are capable of scoring against Chelsea. Now, i'm not saying we'll never beat them, but what i am saying is at present i think we lack the ability to rip them apart upfront as they did to us. For me, thats the only real difference.
We don't really have anyone who can do it on there own or come up with that bit of magic to unlock a tight game. IE go past a player and lay it on a plate for someone or rattle one in the top corner on there own.
This is where again, i think Joaquin would come in. Someone who only needs to have one run, who can get past a defence and create something or score a goal. Someone who can carry the ball, spot a pass and play at pace. We lack pace, we lack someone who can take defenders on.
I genuinely believe that we have a good side.
I see Sinama-Pongolle as a similar player in a similar position to Luis Garcia. Last night i'd have liked to seen him come on earlier as i felt he offered more in that game. He plays off the front man.
I think our best team at the moment could be:
Crouch Sinama
Kewell Alonso Sissoko Gerrard
Riise Hyypia Carragher Finnan
Reina
I'd like to see it given a go against Boro. I think with Joaquin in for Sissoko and Gerrard back into the middle that team would be one player away from being as good as anyone. Crouch would benefit from having a winger like Joaquin in there aswell, Sinama links well with others around him, as does Gerrard and Crouch.
Our best chance of scoring against Chelsea is Gerrard or Riise?
Remind me who scored the goal against them at Anfield? Garcia.
Stu, I hear Ping Pong is looking for a new agent. Do you want his number?
Leon get a grip lad.
Luis Garcia was poor the other night. He had a bad game and alot of attacks and possession broke down with him. He was sloppy, passed the ball to no-one and at times offered pracitcally nothing. He didn't look like scoring or creating a chance and didn't all game. He was simply brushed off the ball on numourus occassions aswell.
Get over it lad, Ronaldinho has bad games.
Don't give me thisabout working hard and doing such and such. He was rubbish the other night and deserved to come off sooner. Thats the end of the matter.
Stu you santamonious pompous little pri.ck.
Garcia has scored against Chelsea, yet you beleive based on the four games we played against them that Garrard and Riise are our best chance of scoring?

You're avoiding answering the question and insulting me, says it all really.
I'll ask again, did you think Luis Garcia played well and looked like scoring OR creating a goal against Chelsea?
KOP-1892 wrote:Why do you ask me do a go to the game Leon? Suppose I'm not allowed to have an opinion if I don't attend every week?
Oh and if we are going to be picky, technically Garcia didn't score as the ball didn't cross the line.

I ask because you commented earlier that Murphy0151 must be "crazy" to say that Riise was ineffectual.
Having sat at the City of Manchester Stadium, the stadium of light and many times at Anfield this season, and watched just how ineffectual Riise has been, both defending, and attacking at times.
I merely wished to ascertain your vantage point.

Stu mate, you didn't at any stage ask me a question, you "told me" that was the end of the conversation, and that makes you santimonious, ie someone who faigns or implies piety or rightousness.
In answer to the question, Garcia did not look like scoring against Chelsea on Tuesday, however to suggest he has never looked like scoring is stupid as he did score against them in the Champions League Semi Final last season.
On a personal note Stu, you really do come across as a stuck up little loud mouth at times Stu, which is a shame as you clearly are knowledgeable about football and LFC.

Maybe you should try talking football occassionally as apose to being a smart arse Leon.
I do have respect for your views and alot of the time you say stuff i'm thinking but picked a bad time to defend Luis Garcia. As i've said in the past, i rate the lad, i like him but he's prone to having woeful games and the other night was one of them.
As for Murph sayin Traore over Riise, yes that is crazy. Traore's a liability. Riise, while not being the best at either full back or left mid is a good alround player and a damn site in nearly every area than Traore. Warnock and Riise should be rotated at left back depending on the game.
