The media bandwagon has started. - But we are not taking any passengers.

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Ciggy » Fri Dec 02, 2005 8:49 am

The wagons full.
So then finally getting some recognition from the media are we, well we dont need it.
Weve been saying for years just how good our club actually is, but the critics could'nt wait to get their knives out and turn them when ever they could.
Call it jealousy, if you like with most of the southern media bias and their journo's probably supporting the mancs and now Chelsea.
For the last two season stoking the fires to prise our most valuble asset away from the club, because Liverpool wasnt fashinable to them, now stevie has pledged his future to Liverpool F.C. they have turned their attentions to prising Henry away from Arsenal, cause the media thinks he should leave cause he cant win a CL medal at Arsenal, so therfore its their job, to throw the cat among the pigeons and get great players to leave their clubs and move onto pastures new.

We are top of the group in the CL weve played more football than any other english team, through having to start early in defending our European Cup. (Oh yes but thats forgotten by the media)
We have gone on five games on the trot in the premiership  unbeaten, We havent lost a European game for over a year.
If we beat Wigan tommorrow we will go second albeit for a couple of hours, Arsenal have a tricky fixture away to Bolton, so after tommorrows games we could find ourselves 3rd  behind the mancs who have a relativly easy fixture against Portsmouth, Chelsea are at home to Boro.

We havent been fourth since May 2004 and a win tommorrow will see us in that 2nd spot somewhere we havent been since December 2002.

Heres some articles from the media bandwagon jumpers.
The Reds are coming up the hill boys

The Times

Gerrard's home fire burning brightly for Liverpool
By Oliver Kay
Club and captain are now as one again at Anfield

HEARD any good Steven Gerrard rumours lately? House-hunting in Hounslow or West Brompton, perhaps? Dining with Peter Kenyon? Remonstrating with Rafael Benítez and checking the small print in his contract? Not even a tiny tantrum about being asked to play on the right wing? No? How very strange.

Article continues......................
Gerrard, it is finally safe to say, is happy.
his decision to stay at Anfield last summer, after his head had been turned by the promise of riches and silverware at Stamford Bridge, is one that he can look back on with relief rather than regret.

There was a spring in Gerrard’s step as he headed down the tunnel at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday night, after the whistle had blown on Liverpool’s fifth league win in succession, and it was there again five minutes later, when he re-emerged for the warm-down, cracking jokes with Jamie Carragher and Xabi Alonso. Between times, still smiling, he informed a television reporter that, on present form, his team were ready to have “a right go” at winning the Premiership title.

This happiness, friends say, extends to his life away from football after he moved to a new house with his fiancée, Alex, and their young daughter, but it is on the pitch that the effects are most visible. Encouraged by the team’s form and excited, it seems, by the prospect of new arrivals in January, Gerrard appears to believe there is every chance that he can complete his medal collection without leaving his home-town club.

The Guardian

Even have us down as dark horses to win the Premiership now.

Liverpool have lost only twice in the league this season and have conceded eight goals - statistics bettered only by Chelsea. And although the Reds still find goals hard to come by, with all of their strikers out of form (William Hill is offering 10-1 on Peter Crouch failing to score a league goal this season), a run of three successive home games starting tomorrow should give them plenty of opportunities to restore confidence. Their end-of-season run-in is arguably easier than both their main rivals for this market, as they will have played all their matches against the other teams in the top three by March.

Theres plenty more article from where these two have come from, but you'd be here all year reading them.

So there you have it finally some recognition to the mighty red machine.

Who's that coming up the hill boys,
The Reds are coming up the hill boys,
They all laugh at us,
They all mock at us,
They all say our days are numbered,
Born to be a scouser,
Victorious are we,
If you wanna win the cup,
Then you better hurry up,
Cos its Liverpool F.C.,
Victorious and glorious
We took the Gwladys Street between the four of us,
So you better thank God, there was only fucking four,
Imagine what we'de done if there was more of us.

From Football365.com

Meanwhile, the night's one Premiership match saw Liverpool win 2-0 at Sunderland to go fourth, thanks to two defence-splitting passes by Xabi Alonso.

Under cover of the Crouch controversy, Liverpool have risen without trace to within two points of second.

The facts of their improvement are plain for all to see: last year they needed 17 games to reach 25 points, so effectively they have four games in hand on themselves.

But there is no real sense of an improvement. No one is excited by this development and the only memorable domestic Liverpool performances have been in defeat, to Chelsea and Crystal Palace.

The man himself was inches from an open goal when stopped by what looked like all the world to be a penalty, but having gone the equivalent of a day without scoring the headlines were of course about him.

There are reasons for the absence of attention to Liverpool's rise beyond the furore over Crouch (and hats off to his team-mates if they have, as many effectively argue, done this well while fielding only 10 men).

First, the role of the second best defensive record in the league is never going to be eye-catching.

Second, the five-match winning streak has been against West Ham, Aston Villa, Portsmouth, Manchester City and Sunderland, hardly the great and the good of the Prem.

Then again, the next five opponents - Wigan, Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Everton and West Brom - are scarcely more illustrious.

It's all very tight. Beat Wigan on Saturday and the Reds could end the day in second; lose and they could be seventh.

World Club Championship commitments mean that Rafael Benitez's side will soon slip two games behind most of the division, muddying their true position for a while longer.

Never mind the question of whether Crouch is any good - what are his team like?

*****************************************************************************
I feel a bit angry reading this b*ll*c*ks.  As was pointed out elsewhere on the F365 messageboards, this prick says that the ten teams he listed aren't the most illustrious, but that's HALF THE PREMIERSHIP he's just listed there.  Don't the 'Wonder Teams' Chelsea, Arsenal and that other bunch of twats have to play these ten teams as well?  It's all a load of shit and these ameteur journalists can't face the fact that we are the European Champions and we are actually a class side who nobody can beat 'even with ten men'.  Their words not mine.  The cheeky bastards, have they even seen Crouchy play?  I'm a big fan of Crouchy and as far as I'm concerned, he's doing the business for us.  I've got no complaints, the goal will come sooner or later.

i read that mate but thought the 'ten men' referred to sisokes sending off. they also seem to miss the point that the teams above us also have played the "lesser" teams

Hmm, see what you mean, forgot about Sissoko, but it wouldn't have surprised me if it were about Crouch.

What is everyones feckin problem with crouchie?
Rafa has said on many many many occassions in the past couple of months that crouch wasn't bought specifically to get goals - yet the boneheaded knobs can't seem to get it into their heads! It no surprise that our upturn in fortune has been in some way linked to crough being in the team and his excellent hold up play and the opposition not being able to hold on to him. It'll be absolutely no surprise that when he does eventually bang in a few goals the press will again show the fact that they have the memory of a fish and will start banging on about how he's the best thing since sliced bread. Well guess what you southern hacks - we kopites already know how good he is and that he's doing exactly the job that rafa brought him in for so feck oof back to bummin' on about fricki' Chel$ki.We don't need your wittless and hollow praise.  :buttrock

Did anybody else here see Gerrard's interview on John Barnes' show last night? That to me looked like a man who was finally happy and enjoying his football after two seasons of general uncertainty about his future.

Gerrard does look more relaxed....and why not!  He's at his hometown club, he's a European Champion and he's earning a fortune in wages  :D

Personally i think the end of transfer talk has helped a lot...he's staying for good and Chelski have finally realised that.

I think the only downside to us winning the prem will be all the glory fans that suddenly come on board. They get quite annoying.

It's a mistery for me why the bloody english press doesn't value enough the team that has brought more glory to England. :O (anyone?)

Here in Spain, the press is krap too. But when they look away leagues, they do so with some distance. Yes, they overrate Alonso's and Garcia's performances, and they even dare to say that Josemi is not that bad, but you could expect that as in Spain there are no massively sold tabloids like The Mirror, and it's Marca (1), AS, and the likes who nourish the cheap nationalism feelings many morons in my country need.

Yes, they did say in it's moment that Liverpool wasn't finding the good track, but it's fair to say that, since we're simply not used to see Liverpool in 13th place. But once we got two games in a row, they did start appreciating the improvement of the team, and certainly do not see the struggle for title as a chimera.

Sabre

(1) Marca a sport newspaper (they support Madrid shamelessly and admit so, and still consider their bloody heads "impartial"), is sold more than the two first general journalism nespaper in Spain, a fact, that might give you an idea of how particularly peculiar my country might reach to be.
