I have though long and hard about starting this thread and im sure some ofyou will give me a lot of stick for it but i need to state one fact. We may have knocked Chelsea out last year and won the cup but as it stands there miles ahead of us and not only us but Man Utd and Arsenal also. The reason being not beacause they are a better team that than us but beacsue they have the funds to emsure the squad has depth and that means they play to their fullest even when some reguler players arnt playing. We have all seen how Arsenal and Man Utd play without their most influential players this year and im afraid unless something is done soon we will always be in Chelseas shadow. Forget all that malarky about keeping the clubs identity but at the end of the day that means :censored:

all when you have little silverware to show for. It doesnt matter who own the club, Liverpool FC will alwyas be Liverpool FC. Im sorry David Moores but you simply dont have the finance to take this club further. Hes done really well to take the club this far but we need cash quick. If we do not get it soon then the face of Englsih football may change forever. I know some of you are not going to like reading this and will really rip into me but the facts are simple. In this day and age in football money talks and thats all there is to say about it.

We've got Aston Villa being bought out by a Billionaire company this week, and more than likely West Ham are to be taken over in Jan06, and £100m spent on them in 4 seasons on new players.

I'd be sick as a chip if these two teams come into play at the top of the league.

Villa more so, for years they've been a nothing team, flurting with Europe one season, relegation the next. Buy rubbish players, and when one comes good sells him because its profit, i hate and have no time for Villa, i'd be gutted if this is the start of a new era for them.

Villa won't be any better than Leeds were while O'Leary was the manager.
If they get someone like Rafa in though, then they'll be in the top 3 easily.

if we do that then what is the attraction of liverpool my friend?? it's against everything that we stand for?? we are probably the only top club left in world football that has declined paying madening transfer fees for our players? if we do that then wat is the difference between us and the manu's and chelski's of the world that we hate so much.
rafa spoke out yesterday abt thia and stated that dont necessarily have to be the richest and spend the most to be the greatest.
i live in calcutta,india and have been watching almost every game that we have played 4 the past 5 years...what was it that drew me to the club...well our stress on the passion of football and not the money was one of them....
make no mistake abt it...we'll win the prem.. may be not this next,may be not even next year ..but victory is inevitable and when it comes it'll be so much more sweeter than the one got by spending loads of money(like chelski)....think of the champions league final...remember how sweet victory tasted?

I heard what Benitez said about not needing funds to build a winning side, but I'm not sure I agree with it. Granted if he 'does a Wenger' in the transfer market and brings in 3-4 world class players for cheap then we could possibly do something in the premiership or champions league again. It may even be enough to win the premiership, but what then?

I'll tell you what then, Chelsea will go out and spend even more money until their team is stronger than ours again. Benitez may build a team capable of competing for the title with Chelsea within a few seasons, but they have the potential to raise the bar yet again with so much financial backing. Bottom line is we cannot compete with Chelsea while they are backed by the Russian, at least not on a regular basis. As for competing with Man U and Arsenal, well I think that's well within our reach already.

In terms of someone coming in and buying over Liverpool, I'm undecided. I'd like to think we could compete with the top clubs without having to go down that road, but I'm not sure anymore. If clubs like Villa and West Ham get major cash boosts and start challenging for honours along with Chelsea, Man U and Arsenal, then there will be no option for us but to try and sell the club to someone who can provide better financial backing, otherwise we truly will start slipping into oblivion.

Something must be done NOW by UEFA or someone to stop these billionaires who know nothing about football coming in and buying clubs over, otherwise it's going to get ridiculous

In all honesty, if Bill Gates bought Liverpool FC and said to Rafa "go buy who you want Buddy. There's a bottomless pit of cash" then I would totally lose any interest in the whole thing TBH.
FWIW I pray it doesn't happen, not just for us but for any other club. Somebody competing on the same level as Chelsea would merely give the thing legitimacy and lessen the chances of FIFA doing something about it.

What we have at Liverpool is a sort of family orientated club, the board are Liverpool fans and do everything for us with the clubs best interest at heart.
David Moores has been very genourous with previous managers cough* Houllier cough * 150 million or more in transfer kittys, we do need an investor ,but we do not want someone to totally take over because someone else will only be in it for the money and not have the clubs best interest at heart and we will lose that Liverpool family feeling if an Abramovich type takes charge, thats why our club is so special and sets us apart from all others.

I feel similar to bigmick on this. It's up to the authorities to even the playing field somewhat, and try and stop ridiculous amounts of money ruining the game.

I would rather be relegated than turn into Chelsea.

Also Mick there is always the case of being careful for what you wish for,example being Hearts.The Hearts fans were over the moon when their "Russian money bags" took over and the money he said and has invested,but look at the situation up there now......the manager,chairman and chief exec all gone within 9 days because the "russian money man" thinks he knows more about football than they do.

It is evident that Rafa can bring out the best in us but we do need a lot more funding. We dont have any depth in our squad to be able to play 2 games a aweek and put in 2 top class performances. The reason Chelsea is top of the league is not becasue they have bought the best players in the wolrd but becasue they have a full swuad with more than one player in each position. We unfortunatly do not have that luxury. Rafa has promised to buy in the Jan window but it wont stop there. What about then in the summer, where will the money come from then? From selling current players and starting all over again? Nonsence. We need funding now. I read a while back that the Thai priminister was coming in with a bid as well as another Americann family who go by the name "Kraft"? Anyone know anything about this?

Just to be like Chelsea?
Not a chance..you have put across a very materialistic point of veiw!
Have a bit of patience mate,as said before many times on this forum the Chelsea domination will not last forever!
If we were to be taken over by a billionaire,then Utd then Arsenal and so on it would ruin football totally!
As long as Raffa gets it together and are team start playing better(and i believe this will happen) and we start showing steady progress thats enough for me!
Overnight success and false glory would taste like shi.te!!
