Worst start to a season? - Depends on the perspective

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

So officially this is our worst start to a season in 13 years, and we are 13th in the table. However we've made a definite improvement on last season, so how does this fit.

Our games so far:
                            Last season     This season
Middlesborough A         Lost                Draw
Sunderland H               Won                Won
Tottenham A               Draw               Draw
Manchester UTD H        Lost                Draw
Birmingham A               Lost                Draw
Chelsea H                    Lost                Lost

Total points:               4                     7

So compared to last season we have made an extra 3 points (the difference between finishing 4th and 5th last season). Surely this is an improvement and nothing to be so down about?
We've had a very hard start to the season, and the reward for coming through this with only one loss is these fixtures:

H Blackburn (PREM.)
A Fulham (PREM.)
H West Ham (PREM.)
A Aston Villa (PREM.)
H Portsmouth (PREM.)
A Man City (PREM.)
H Wigan (PREM.)
H Middlesbro (PREM.)
H Newcastle (PREM.)
A Everton (PREM.)
H West Brom (PREM.)

All our up and coming premiership games and very very winnable all of them. 9/10 times you would back us to win any of these games. The only corresponding fixtures we lost last season were Everton and Man City away and I'm confident we have the quality not to allow that again.

So lets look forward to an easy stretch of games and hopefully a lot of points :)

True enough. One loss in six isn't a bad start.

Nice research XSD, I believe all of those upcoming fixtures are winnable, but not with 4-5-1.  Surely Benitz must see we have to play a bit more openly against these teams, especially the home games.

The league table should look a bit more respectable once we get those games out of the way

It is a point i was trying to make on a previous thread, i didnt post the upcoming fixtures but after looking at them it makes me feel even more confident that we will move up the table soon, and pretty quickly.
I know we cant really take any game as 3 points guaranteed but we should be winning the bulk of them.
Agree with John Craig though, the way to do that is to go for it, 4-5-1 against teams that we have far better players than would be pointless and i hope Rafa can see that as well.
1 good win against Blackburn could really turn things round, but as i have said previoulsy the fixture list imo was not kind to us.
