Its great to see that our Raffa is thinking ahead with signing young players with a lot of potential! To me this shows that he cares about the club and wants things to be in place when he leaves(although i hope he stays forever).
Also the thing that really excites me here is the fact that all these young talents are snubbing other great teams to come to the Pool. All these guys have taken advice from agents to come so it shows wot respect Raffa has in world football....And Maureen said she was the special one!
Nope! The special one is our Raffa !!

A reporter asks if Rafa is interested in the Cricket and Rafa said:

'Ahh Cricket is a fantastic game, because you can watch it with people and nobody knows the rules! and you spend the game discussing what the rules are'

then he said:

'Its a fantastic game where you say to your wife, I'm going to play a game, and then you return 5 - 10 days later!'

Honestly, its genius, the reporters are pi$$ing themselves.

Great post by theace1983, it really is an exciting time to be a 'pool fan. Looking at the the younger lads coming in (and through the ranks) it's looking promising - I've always thought Pongolle has got what it takes and I sincerely hope we hang onto him, i also think whitbread looks like he can make it. Mellor however will never make it in a million years (but thanks for the wonder-goal against arsenal :nod )

I see similarities between Rafa and Wenger in terms of taking advantage of the transfer market and unearthing young gems (hopefully!)

Excellent post mate.

Rafa not buying super stars does not worry me at all. He trying to sort out the depth and the balance of the squad first and then he will look to increase the quality when the right opportunity is available.

In regard to recruiting the best youngsters, it is definitely the way to go, what with Chelsea being able to buy the best players without having to worry about money.

But I'm not sure who Walsh is!, I know you meant Welsh.

I would agree with you in the main Ace1983, but I'd say the team of 2010 may look like this (probably nothing like it, actually!!!!!)

                                            Reina (27 years old)
         Barragan (22)     JC (32)        Roque/Hobbs (22)  Warnock (28?)

                                         Sissoko (25)

                Gerrard (30)        Alonso (28)        Gonzalez*(25)

                             Cisse (28)       Pongolle (26)

(I've picked 4-4-2, just because I couldn't omit Sissoko!!!)

* If he's allowed to sign!

Obviously this won't be the team, but it's a possibility, and the mix of youth and experience would be fantastic. There will be bigger gems unearthed in the meantime, and no doubt quality replacements for every position.

Rafa has, in one pre-season, purchased 6 of the 12 players named above, with the Austrian dude, and him from Ghana making it 8. The man is a scholar.

Around six years ago my wife jumped on the supporting Man Ure bandwagon, however, she said on many occassions last year that she thought Rafa was great!! - we had a little boy last year and there were many heated debates over who he would support, GUESS WHAT she ordered him loads of LFC baby grows & other stuff from the official website last week!!!!!

Rafa you have managed to save my marraige, win us that magic 5th cup in your first season and save my son from years of possible mental anguish, oh & clear out all the dead wood from our squad

As Ray Liotta said in Goodfellas

"your a really funny guy"
