Nobby Solano starts on the bench today against the sc*m. Some say it's to do with a move to us, others say it is due to fixture congestion and keeping him fit for games that Villa can actually win. Rumours abound.

He must have p1ssed off O'Leary with that talk of wanting to move to us.  He's not injured or anything, so there's no other way he wouldn't be in their starting 11.

From Sky Sports

Nolberto Solano claims he will try to engineer a move to Liverpool by demanding a new contract at Aston Villa.

The Peruvian winger is on Liverpool's shopping list, despite Reds boss Rafa Benitez suggesting he has not made an offer for Solano.

Villa manager David O'Leary did reveal that the European champions had enquired about Solano but he is anxious to keep the 30-year-old at the club.

Solano is flattered to be a target for Liverpool and is tempted by the prospect of a move to Anfield.

The former Newcastle United ace is out of contract at the end of the season and is hoping Villa will not block his chance to join their Premiership rivals.

The creative wide man has expressed a strong interest in signing for The Reds and will try to force Villa to sell him by asking for a new contract.

"It's Liverpool," Solano told the Peruvian press. "It's not just any team that is interested in me.

"It's the team that has won the last Champions League and will surely fight for the title in The Premier League.

"I am under contract at Aston Villa until May so to make them let me go I am going to ask for a two-year deal and that will make them let me go because the club doesn't want that.

"On the other hand, I am proud that Aston Villa doesn't want to let me go because that means you have done your work correctly.

"In addition to that maybe the officials don't want to have problems with the supporters because I had been chosen as the best player of the team last season.

"Besides all this, I have to sit down and have a conversation with the coach David O'Leary and tell him that this is a nice opportunity for me and my career.

"Maybe that will convince him to let me go."

Seems like a loyal sort of fella anyway. Definately one to have on your side in the trenches.

Marseille have confirmed they would be interested in signing Liverpool's Djibril Cisse.

The French international has been linked with a shock move out of Anfield as rumours grow of a possible return to Merseyside for Michael Owen.

Lyon have played down suggestions that they could make a move for Cisse, but Marseille have admitted they would be keen on the former Auxerre ace.

Marseille president Pape Diouf refused to rule out a move for Cisse if he were to become available.

"If such an opportunity came our way then we would seize it. But the cup is still a long way from our lips," Diouf told L'Equipe.

Any move looks unlikely with Marseille unlikely to be able to afford any deal for Cisse and the player himself insisting he is happy at Liverpool.
