Anelka was only with us for five months and yet as recently as last December Stevie Gerrard described him as "one of the best strikers in the world I have played with ,he was on fire during his time with us ."

but he didn't score many goals....he played over 20 games and only got a couple.

Yeah you're right , he only scored five for us which looking back does suprise me.

The signing of kuyt is now looking very, very unlikely.

Reported Liverpool target Dirk Kuyt has been named as Feyenoord's new captain.
The prolific Dutch international is thought to be a name under consideration at Anfield and has also been linked with a move to France - Lyon named as potential suitors.
However, for the moment at least, it would appear that Feyenoord are confident of keeping last season's top goalscorer in Holland.
Kuyt replaces Bart Goor as captain, with manager Erwin Koeman expressing the ease in which he came to the decision.
''I'm 24-years-old. That’s a pretty young age to be captain of Feyenoord. But I think that I could be a good captain.
''The last two seasons I have played all the games for Feyenoord. This maybe comes at the right moment.''

Woolf, Kewell_7, I think Anelka's lack of goals for us was more of the result of the way we played - mostly punting the ball up for Owen and Anelka to chase against the opposition defenders.

He scored quite a lot for a poor Man City team in the following season. Whatever it is, it is not him alone being the factor for his lack of goals for us.

Anelka is not the player he was 4 years ago.

Crouch is beyond belief. Morientes scores more goals with his head than any other striker in Europe. I dont see what possible difference Crouch provides.

Dirk Kuyt for me. He's a proven finisher. Cisse and Baros have pace, but Kuyt is clinical when in the box.

i liked Anelka, we shouldve kept him when we had the chance

there are many good strikers/forwards out there, but to say someone scores more his head than anyone else, leaves me staggered as to how you know this, or is it an OPTA thing.

you say KUYT, fair enough. but all striker are proven finishers arent they??

shearer is a striker, but he went thru a lean spell for england, and so did MO for liverpool, and he's a proven goal getter....so i am trying to understand your points exactly?? remember all what you say is your opinion only, and nowts ''proven'' at all, coz that can apply to many folk, including, and dare i say, Heskey!!

now thats got you thinking tel

??? I think all of this is very premature. We really haven't had Cisse and Morientes together after a full pre-season training period and being allowed to settle in to both England and the pace of the English game. We could already have an amazing 30 to 40 goal a seaon paring on our hands. We have to give them time and see where it goes. Anyone we bring in would be first choice whether it is Kujit or Crouch. They would be on the bench and if Baros goes, you can guarantee Cisse and Morientes will start. Lets see what happens.
