Search for a striker - Anelka ,should we reconsider ?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

There are some really good points here and I can see why people are so divided. Anelka is a frightening player on his day, lightning quick, direct and an excellent finisher BUT this comes at a cost. His attitude, loyalty and passion has always been wanting and shows no sign of improvement for me. For this reason I would not take him on. As some have said we have Cisse who I think is going to bang in goals for fun this season. he is a very simialr player to Anelka but with an attitude and work rate that totally outshine Anelka's. I have high hopes for Djibril ths season. As for who we SHOULD buy well again there is plenty of room for debate. I was praying to see Dirk Kuyt come here but that deal looks dead, he was a versatlile player that would have brought a different element to our team and of course Crouch too brings something different. A target man who knows the division and domestic game and would come in handy in those winter battles after midweek European trips, but at 8 million that is too much for someone who will really just be a squad player

I know Crouch wasnt good at Villa but if he can score 16 goals with lowly Southampton then surley with quality players like Gerrard and Alonso providing passes for him he should be able to score more.

We now have a very strong midfield that can create many oppourtunitys to score directly and indirectly so what Rafa seems to want is seomone who has no problem putting away goals. Crouch scores a lot more than the European top scorer Baros.

If we get Figo, stay injury free this season and with a bit of luck we might just be able to do something big this season.

From what i see that RB like to use one tall guy to parther with a short and fast. Crouch parther with Cisse/Sinama Polgolle , Nando parther with Baros/Cisse just like John Carew / Mista parther with Aimar.

I Would be more than happy if we signed Anelka like woof said if Rafa played Cisse and Anelka upfront that would scare the sh!t out of defences.

Sorry to said that I disagree ..... because there's no understanding between them. If there is I think the French team is the world champion now. Don't get me wrong , Anelka is a good player but it's all in the past.
RB is a smart manager. He buy a younger and cheap player, train him until he can fit into the team and this player will be a better player for the future. Look at Mista and Aimar, nobody knows them but now how much do you think they cost?

Anelka is a proven player in the EPL, but then going by the past season, so too is Crouch evan if he had just had only one good season. Anelka is still only 26 and should be able to improve given the right environment. The only thing about Anelka is that for him, "the right envorinment" tends to change far too quickly and he has never left any of his previous clubs on good terms (ours should not really count as it was only a short loan spell, but he did not left on good terms with Houllier as well). He changes his mind far too often in the past and that happened at every club. Risky still...

Rafa's interest in Crouch is perhaps because of him being so tall and having a good first touch (from what I have seen, better than Baros) which gives Liverpool a different option should he be deployed.

Anelka changes clubs as soon as things are not going well. He signed with Fenerbache in January and already wants to move back to the Premiership. When Anelka is concerned it's not a question of his abilities it's a matter of his mentality.

So I agree with azriahmad

Yas, A.B., it is such a pity more so because he is a classy and proven goal scorer. He has been most effective in the EPL, if I am not mistaken, Houllier either did not have the right personnel or used the wrong approach to get the best of Anelka but I remembered that he went on to score loads (20+?) at Man City right after we did not take-up the option to buy him.

If he goes on like this, he will be remembered as a talented one who let his career go to waste because he was too moody to stick it long enough with any team to make his career more successful (mind you, he did win a quite a few honous with Arsenal and Real Madrid). Reminds me of one Bernd Schuster in the late 70s and early to mid 80s, by far the most talented midfielder the then West Germany produced but steadfastly refused to play for Germany again after their Euro 1980 - arguably they could have won the 1982 World Cup with him as the play maker.

good player but mentally not someone rafa would want. he is too similiar to cisse. i think rafa has set his mind on a tall target man (guess who?) and with a limited budget if rafa were to go for another striker, i would rather have owen than anelka. anyway after tasting the great success at real, mikey would be more appreciative of things at home.
Bill Shankly after beating Everton in the '71 cup semi : "Sickness would not have kept me away from this one. If I'd been dead, I would have had them bring the casket to the ground, prop it up in the stands and cut a hole in the lid."

I was satisfied with Anelka's mentallity during his time in LFC. I was sure he was happy and eager to stay. But GH saw it differently. But he did not really go hard at the club or anything.

Going on to Man City, Anelka still have it good in his performance. That's something I would not say for some other strikers stated here. Crouch? Apart from getting his head to all the high balls, I see no other technical aspect of the game that he has over Anelka.

Owen is good but seriously Real will still be wanting him.

Anelka hasn't "asked" for a move . Newcastle claim to have made an offer for him .
