Search for a striker - Anelka ,should we reconsider ?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby woof woof ! » Sat Jul 16, 2005 4:34 pm

As many of us continue to voice our dissatisfacton with our current strike force and are seemingly divided on who Rafa should bring in ,Crouch if affordable ,Owen if really available etc etc etc . With the news that Newcastle are looking to sign Anelka should LFC perhaps consider sticking in a bid ?
I know we've had many conversations regarding this fella's attitude etc but we all seem to agree that he has the class we demand .I'm convinced that the fella has matured and attitude is no longer a problem . I love to see him back with us possibly (I haven't quite decided) even ahead of Owen .
If they get him I reckon newcastle would have made a brilliant signing . I'm praying Rafa has a look at it .

ps , a front pairing of Anelka and Cisse backed up by Zenden ,Gerrard ,Alonso and possibly Figo .

as Dave would say "Devestatin' Yeahhhhhhhhh ! "  :D

Short but sweet. In all honesty i don't think he'd score the number of goals we currently need. I believe class players seem to score more goals in a worse team as they are relied upon more than if they were at a good side, however i do rate him.

I've called for him to come back before many times as he's a far better player than Baros, proven unlike Cisse and has a superb alround game.

I'd LOVE to see him here upfront with Owen again but i doubt that is ever likely to happen, he's a class player, but i'd question weather he'd be good enough (as a goalscorer) to be our main one. He's a 20 goals a season player rather than a 25-30 like Michael.

Don't get me wrong, if we signed him, i'd be over the moon, he's better than anything we have already, but i really do feel we should pull out all the stops to re-sign Owen first.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo     :no

Don't get me wrong, i agree with you on the lads ability...he's a very gifted player but the man has no heart.  How long has he been at his new club, five mins?  Apparently he left Man City because he "wanted champions league football," so why join Newcastle so soon?  Simple fact, money!  His brothers get him to move on every few years, thus cash in on his transfers and although i would have prefered Anelka to stay instead of buying Doofus, personally i'd rather have neither.

Fair comment Stu ,
I wouldn't be looking for him to play as a lone striker but as suggested in my modified post ,in tandem with Cisse I think they would scare the sh'it out of everbody.  :D

Of course the problem with my idea is that Rafa would have to play two up front ,and thats not something we're likely to see , (hope i'm wrong )

a season in the Turkish league can radically alter you're perspective on your career .
Anelka by the way was gutted when his one season contract with us wasn't made permanent
The fella wants a return to center stage i'm sure he'd leap at the chance to join us .
Surrounded by a squad of our quality he will do the business.

that may well be the case.....but can you see him happly staying here?  I'd reacon, he'd play well, then want a move to Milan or Juventus once he's back on the big time.....sorry but players like Anelka are not what we need, they unsettle the dressing room and hate being part of a team....i think he'd throw a tantrum as soon as he get rotated for Cisse.

Some people move on and some continue to live in the past . What evidence do you have that Anelka during his time with us ,Man city and his current club has continued to be a negative influence in the dressing room ?

I believe he's grown up , you on the other hand still seem to be reading 5 year old newspaper clippings .

None, see Woof woof. People don't need evidence, they hear someone say something then think... ooo thats good i'll say that next time.

Its the same with this Owen has a "poor touch" scenario and "Murphy gives the ball away more than anyone" and Alonso has a "high pass completion rate" and Crouch is a donkey because he's 6'7. People get a myth in their stupid mind and stick by it because some ponsey self proffessed "expert" says something daft.

the evidence is in the fact that Anelka is jumping ship from a club after 1/2 a season....also a few man city mates of mine said he was fiening injury inorder to make sure he got a transfer straight away....as by magic he became fully fit when he got his transfer

His pace is no better than cisse, his heading is worse than Nando, his wage won't be lower than Figo, his finishing is excellent but his attitute is much lousier than Baros, etc etc...

Newcastle has just expelled a devil named Bowyer, yet another demon is on his way.

We don't need Anelka.

I'd take Anelka back no problem.  He would be good value for money at under 10 mil i reckon.

I'd  be willing to take a chance on him regardless of attitude as he's got the talent, and is proven in the prem.  Also as others have said its been a while since their was evidence of him creating hassle in the dressing room, so maybe he has grown up.  He's 26, not the sulking 17yr old bossed around by his agent brothers at Arsenal.

we dont need anelka. the reason we are going for crouch is because he adds something different to the team. there is nothing that anelka does that cisse or mori cant do. thats why we wont go for johnson, why should we? we got baros.

this is why we are going for crouch, coz hes different. ok, i dont want him either, but this is the reason why

When has Owen scored 25-30 goals in a season!!
I am sure he has NEVER scored more than 24 in a single season (excluding internationals, pls correct me if i am wrong!!)

So where do you get the 25-30 from?? Maybe you are confused with either Rush or Fowler!!
