"I'll be signing the deal, maybe even today. I'd also like it known there are no clauses in that contract. This won't be happening again next summer or ever again, so far as I'm concerned.

"I've committed my long-term future to the club and I want all the speculation to end now. This is what I've wanted all along."

What he should have said in the first place. But thank :censored: for that. Hopefully now he can show the consistency he needs to finally become the player we know he can be.

Common Stevie. Get the chip off ya shoulder and start enjoyin ya footy again. Xabi and Stevey have it all. Time to produce.

Because we havent got the money to buy a 30 million pound midfielder, which is what hes worth and he is not worth that price tag for nothing, there is something special that all the big clubs are dying to get there hands on our man.

why do you think that we need a 30 million pounds midfielder? if talent is judged solely by the transfer fees they command, then Stevie should be thrice the player Xabi will ever be. Don't make sense! Value are sometimes determined by talent, and sometimes by hype. In Stevie's case, it is a combination of both. I would rather a player who wants to play for the club (which I am not sure Stevie is at the mo given a choice), and not trying to distabilise it or think he is bigger and better than the club (which he think he is).

Look don't get me wrong, a fully committed Stevie is an assets to any club. Just that he pulls this trick once too many time for my liking (and thus question of his loyalty). We all don't know what transpired during the phone conversation between Perry and Gerrard yesterday. For all you care, Rafa's was deliberately kept out, and which is why he stayed silent all day. I hoped it is just me worrying over nothin and Rafa was busy tryiing to recruit more players to join us...but I just got this eerie feeling... :lookaround

When you get back, if you STILL want to sign then we'll get it on." TBPH the issue foe me is not only whether we get to keep him, it's what level of player we get to keep. I thought he was very poor in a lot of games last season. Would we in all honesty have been worse off, aside from maybe half a dozen performances,

Some fair points made there Big Mick ,I guess it all comes down to how we as individuals rate him .

Some of his performances in some games were certainly below par for a player of his supposed stature . Gerrard did hold his hand up after Istanbul and acknowledged that he needs to be more focused and up his game in the forthcoming season.

Liverpool isn't a one man team by any stretch of the imagination but I don't think we would have won the CL without him .Thats only my opinion I know but no amount of debate will change it. Gerrard is an immense player and I'm delighted he's staying .
I believe he actually can't wait to have the whole saga sorted so he can unload the weight of what for him is a life shaping decision and finally stop thinking about it , but until that contract is signed he is still vulnerable to the influence of the sharks that surround him.
Thats why my attitude is get it signed , now !

Good points there, but i cant expect him to be a collossus in every game. But he was there and he was immense where it mattered in Europe last season. His performances against Olympiakos and AC Milan were only two of a massive season in Europe for him. I hope that the club can pull out another couple of big names in the rest of the summer to repay the faith he has shown in the club.

Just watched the interview on LFC.tv.  Looks to me like he wants to stay.

Drama over.

I'll be be glad when this roller coaster finally ends and he signs.  I'm still confused as to what the heck is going on.  But hey, he says he's staying!

Gerrard Houllier November 2002  :kungfu:

"Gerard Houllier, the Liverpool manager, last night challenged one of the most feted young talents in England, Steven Gerrard, to stop believing the hype and headlines and start delivering."

"Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier claims Steven Gerrard's "terrible" form made a massive contribution to their Champions League exit."

"Ever since being catapulted into the national limelight with some stirring displays for England and Liverpool, Gerrard has enjoyed relentless praise. "But once a player starts to believe everything that is written about himself and thinks, 'I am king of the world', then there is difficulty and danger," said Houllier."
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Kenny Dalglish 1/2/2011

From what I read, it was LFC management that stated that by rejecting the offer it is clear that SG wants to leave. From that moment on, the things went south yesterday, I have not found an article that states that SG was the one who initiated the exist play, unless rejecting the contract in the form presented is considered that, which is not true in real world. Offer is made, its either accpeted or rejected based on many thing / clauses etc, teams go back and forth untill its accepted or one side decides its not going to work out.

Yes, for his part SG didn't help matters much, he probably need good week worth of rest and probably a mini vacatiion to get over this fiasco and a visit or 2 to see someone to talk his mind over.
