Very worried about gerrard leaving

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Ok I know its been done to death, will he leave will he stay, but the reality is we will know in a week or 2 the truth, hes in portugal now on holiday, and I fear the worst if I am honest when he comes back.
I just have this awful feeling we wont see him in the red jersey of liverpool anymore more the white Real madrid one :( .
I know he was the happiest man alive lifting that trophey, and the interviewer put him on the spot, in the heat of the moment.
I know we will probably get around 30 million for him, but I dont want him to go, you can more or less say he won us the CL getting the lads going on the pitch in the second half, and we dont have anyone else who can do that, unless cara was captain.
This topic is not to slam him and I dont want anyone else to either.
But who shares my views and think hes played his last game for us?

after us winning the cup and him lifting it i am totally convinced he's going to stay. he wants to win big trophies and play in big games and he must know now that he can do that with liverpool. next season he will be playing for reigning european champions if he goes anywhere else he won't be, simple as that. chin up, lynds - he'll still be at anfield come next season.

iv SG leaves after winnig the european cup with liverpool he has no excusses 4 leaving. he said he wanted to win things with liverpool and what is bigger then the european cup. it was in the paper yesterday that he was leavin for 50 mil ( never belive the papers ) but iv real came in with 50mil for him i think liverpool as a major club wud be stupid not to take the money. alonso was 10 mil. with rafas eye thats 5 alonsos. half a team for the sale of one man. dnt get me wrong i love SG and it will be a sad day iv it happens. but i dnt think it will happen for at least another year.

Im not to sure TBH Andy, hes won everything apart from the prem with us, and staying to win things was never the question, its all about the money, and ever since Alex mixed with Posh spice, Terry, and Lampards girls she's got a bit of a chip on her shoulder, and sort of likes the high life, it will be her telling him to go more than him wanting to go, thats worrying me :(

Lynds Lynds Lynds, where's this come from? :(

He's just won us the champions league. He's said he's staying, and will be talking to the chairman about a new contract shortly. However, as you rightly said he's on holiday at the moment so he can't exactly sign when he isn't here can he?
He'll stay im sure of that. There's no way he could justify leaving, and i dont think he will want to now. You mentioned Real Madrid as a possible destination. Where are the guarantees that Real Madrid will win anything in the near future anyway? They've won nowt for two years and half of the Galactico's are rumoured to be on their way out anyway.

I'm planning to put 20 quid on him staying for the first game of next season. Dawsonio, what are the odds? :;):

I think its people trying to sell Sunday papers.
Like the last post said, Stevie said that he wanted to leave to win the big trophies, he has just won the Champions league other than the Premiership that is the biggest trophy he will ever win.
I am pretty certain he will stay and i am looking forward to seein who rafa is bringing in alongside him.

I must admit I am not totally confident he will stay.

Hope he does, but maybe he is listening to the some of the media and critics who are saying that cup competitiona are not a true measure of progression.

But winning the Champion League with Liverpool will mean more to him than winning 5 with another club. Hope he signs a 2 or 3 year extension and then takes it from there. Even if he signs a new contract I’m sure no one would stop him leaving 1 or 2 years down the line, so it makes sense for him to stay and sign. To be honest I don’t know what to think.

But if he leaves then it is not the end of the world, no player is irreplaceable and no player is more important then having a complete squad.

One interesting thing though, top players usually take months or more than year to negotiate new contracts, and I remember Rick Parry saying not so long ago that no negotiations have started.

Even if he had the intention of signing a new contact it may take a few months if one has not already been outlined.

Just found this in the echo.

Stevie talks face delay Jun 6 2005

By Chris Bascombe, Liverpool Echo

TALKS to resolve the future of Steven Gerrard are unlikely to start before Liverpool return to pre-season training on June 27.

Gerrard declared his intention to stay at Anfield in the aftermath of the Champions League triumph, but so far there's no meeting scheduled to discuss next year's plans.

A variety of circumstances have contributed to the delay.

Chief executive Rick Parry flew out to Barbados on pre-arranged club business 48 hours after the victory in Turkey.

Manager Rafa Benitez returned to Merseyside over the weekend having spent last week in Madrid, while Gerrard has also been enjoying a well-earned break following an arduous season.

His representative from agency SFX, Struan Marshall, got married the weekend after Liverpool's European Cup win, making it impossible for all parties to get together amid the euphoria of Istanbul.

At the moment it remains unclear if the club will attempt to bring the matter to a close before Gerrard returns to Melwood at the end of the month.

One might have presumed an immediate resolution would have been sought. However, the lack of urgency to put the saga to bed appears more a consequence of circumstance than any suspicious factor.

Yesterday saw the first 'Gerrard to leave' story printed since the European Cup success - a situation every Liverpool fan must have hoped would finally end after the win over AC Milan.

But Benitez knows speculation will continue until Gerrard pens a new deal. He currently has two years left on his contract. If an agreement isn't struck this summer, he edges closer to the danger zone.

Liverpool can't allow the captain to get within one year of a Bosman or they'll receive nowhere near the £35m he'd currently command.

Benitez was planning for next season with two potential budgets. The first, which presumes Gerrard will stay, provides a transfer kitty of around £30m.

However, a contingency plan in the event of the captain moving on, handing Benitez around £60m.
