If the rumours of Gerrard true, does anyone think rafa is just keeping him on his toes to show him that there are other options for the team! I think stevie g will definately sign it just a matter of when!!
Remember SG after final he would have signed a new contract there an then given the chance!!

This whoile thing about Gerrard leaving is Horse Sh!t ! For the last two years, it has been common knowledge that Liverpool have been fighting to keep Steven Gerrard. Parry and Benitez have said any number of times that he is priceless, and have we all forgotton that he said himself "How can I leave after a night like this?!". And all of a sudden, on a sunday morning, when there is no football news and the papers need a good story, Liverpool have miraculously changed their minds and that "source" who is "apparently" "close to Gerrard" says that he is now being flogged off. Bo11ox! My @rse. But don't take my word for it, take it from the newspapers who brought you such nuggets of truth as "Summer 2004: Beckham going to Chelsea!", "Summer 2004: Davids going to Bolton", "January 2005: Duff, Gerrard and Beckham all used in three way swap deal" and my personal favorite "Summer 2005: Raul going to Liverpool"

These papers are not out to offer credible stories, they are out to make money. Maybe Gerrard will go this summer, but it will not be because Liverpool FC, the chairman, the chief exec, and the manager (not to mention the fans) want him to. If you believe this cr@p, you need your head checked.

agree there...i think Liverpool are sick of saying "we want to keep Gerrard" everytime some :censored: comes out of a newspaper.  If they have said it once, they have said it a thousand times....i for one half expect to hear Gerrard has signed a new contract tomorrow when we unviel our new players.

spot on mate - all this "no smoke without fire" :censored: just encourages them to write more dross. PLEASE try and ignore them boys & girls - they might start trying telling the truth if we don't buy the garbage they spout

Maybe SG's agent created all the fuss deliberately to get his client the best deal possible. :D

Steven Gerrard looks to be on his way out of Anfield after his agent told Sky Sports News that talks over a new Liverpool deal have stalled, and were unlikely to be re-opened.

Media speculation has intensified over the weekend after a reported fall-out between the Liverpool skipper and the club's officials.

Talks over a new deal were said to have hit a major stumbling block and now Gerrard's agent has confirmed the troubles.

Struan Marshall told Sky Sports News that not only have talks stalled with Liverpool, they are unlikely to be re-opened.

"Talks with Liverpool have stalled over a new contract for Steven Gerrard and are unlikely to be reopened," Marshall told Sky Sports News.

Gerrard was eager to sign a new contract with The Reds after lifting the UEFA Champions League trophy in dramatic fashion in Istanbul.

However, it is Liverpool's reluctance to offer a fresh deal that has reportedly angered the dynamic midfield man.

Talks began last Monday when the players returned for pre-season training, and initial discussions were said to have been positive.

However, talks were said to have stalled on Friday and reports in Spain have suggested that Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez wants to cash-in on him to strengthen his squad.

The relationship between the two now seems to have worsened and comments from his agent seem to signal that a new deal will not now be agreed.

Gerrard still has two years left on his current deal but The Reds will have to cash-in on him this summer to recoup a sizeable fee for his services.

Real Madrid and Chelsea will no doubt be watching with interest as the situation develops.

RAFA: I WANT STEVIE TO STAY
Paul Eaton
Rafael Benitez today insisted he wants Steven Gerrard to remain a Liverpool player.
Speaking at a news conference at Melwood, the Reds manager quashed speculation that he wants his captain to leave the club by insisting Gerrard has a major role to play in his Anfield future.

He said: "I can assure our fans that we want Steven Gerrard to stay with us.

"I renew my deal with Liverpool in four or five years and when I do I would like Stevie to be my next coach, assistant manager and maybe even the next manager after me. He can even have the chief scout position if he wants it.

"I want him to stay with the club. We are trying to build a better team and a better squad and I want Stevie to be a major part of that.

"Last season I tried to get Stevie to sign a new deal three times. On each occasion he said wait, so we waited.

"This year we want to win more trophies and that is why we are improving our squad with new signings."
