Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

tbh I don't think we will see any huge signings like Joaquin, Vicente et al. Dirk Kuijt will more than likely be the biggest name we sign in the summer and I don't have a problem with this.

Winning the European Cup showed that we have a pretty decent squad of players as it is, with players like Finnan, Carrager, Riise, Alonso, Gerrard, Garcia, Hamann, Hyppia, Cisse and Morientes making up the backbone. then their is the eterbal underachiever Harry Kewell, who it seems will get one more chance under Rafa, and if he could miraculosuly come good then we have a really good player on our hans, but I won't hold my breath.

Their is also some good young players in the squad such as Sinama, Welsh, Carson Warnock and La Tallec possibly. Theri is laos backups liek Josemi, Nunez and Traore who can do a job if required.

I believe that Biscan, Smicer, Baros and Kirkland are on the way out.

The signings that I think will come in will be:

Reina - first choice GK, Carosn and Dudek (perhaps) as backup
Stelios - really rate him as a good hard working right midfilederm who could possibly find himelf in the starting eleven if he palys well.
Zenden - A versatile midfielder hwo cna play on the left or centrally, a very reliable player who will add dpeth to the sqaud.
Kuijt - Really good talent from Holland, hopefull cna prove to be as successful as the lieks of Bergkamp and RVN.
Roque - Don't know much baout him, but from ehat i have read is a young star of the future.
Barragan - As above
Centre-half - Could be Milito, Ibanez ort another Spaniard. Definitley an area we wehere we need strenghtening with Sami, Carra and Traore the only real centre-abck we have. Zak Whitbread is still a little young ro be a regular first teamer I think.

This would give us a line - up of something liek this for next season.

                              Reina

Finnan          Carra                  Sami/ ???            Riise/Warnock

Garcia/Stelios             Gerrard            Xabi Alonso         Riise/Kewell/Zenden

                                   Cisse           Morientes/Kuijt

Well summed up mate, agree with most of that.

Even if Stelios and Zenden aren't big names, they are solid players with european and premiership experience who would give us much needed width.  Astute signings IMO.

After a keeper and wingers, a quick centre-back is the next priority.  Sami was superb in europe last season but he can be a liability in the quicker paced prem.  He'll do for another season but he's not gettin any younger and needs the odd rest.  Whitbread and Medjani have potential but I expect Rafa will bring someone else in :nod

Again well summed up, but what I like most here is the starting line up is exactly our first choice team of last season bar Dudek/Reina....I still think that if we had remained fit last season we would have brushed Everton aside and finished probably top three. No matter who we sign this summer my big hope for this upcoming, very long season, is that our key players stay fit and give us the chance to really show the prem what we're capable of.

Most people seem to be ok with the potential signing of Zenden, however i've only seen him as average.
I'm not saying he's a bad player but i just don't see him making a massive difference to our club.
also if he was so good why are 'boro gonna let him go?

I know he's toward the end of his contract and his agent(who happens to be his pa) says its not about cash, but are they really putting up a  fight to keep him?

He was also bombed by Chelski in the not too distant past.

I reckon Zenden would be a good signing. It is a fact that some players do not do well at some clubs but can be a superstar at another. I have no evidence that this will be the case here of course but it may be. I am half dutch and follow the dutch national team as much as I can. I know how could Kuyt can be but I have also been watching Zenden for a good few years and he has a lot of talent. He is 28, experienced at the very highest level and a new start with a good manager using him in his favourite position, I see no reason why he couldn't be awesome for us.

I was of a similar opinion when we were initially linked with him, but he does offer a lot of experience (he has played at the highest level for club and country)

He also adds a lot of versatility as he can play central or left midfield, something we perhaps lack in our midfielders is versatility at the minute.

Milito is good so is Ibanez. Im probabaly a lot younger than most of you but if you ever play and know how accurate the stats on Football Manager 2004 i can tell you that Milito and Ibanez are quality. He was supposed to move to Real Madrid 2 years ago but he got injured so Real pulled out. But the last 2 years hes been awesome for Real Zaragoza. Trust me if he comes he will definatley sure up the defence.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.
