Kewell admits the condemnation has hurt but insists he has not yet had the chance to prove his true worth to Reds fans.

"It hasn't been a nice time in football for me," he told The Times.

"I've been criticised, but I know the truth.

"The boss (Benitez) knew right from the start of the season that I had an injury and every time I played, he was taking a chance with me and that I was putting my body on the line because, at any given time, it could snap.

"That's what happened in the final.

"It was the biggest game of my life and the injury wasn't on my mind, but when I stretched and felt it snap, I knew right away that I couldn't go on.

"Yes, I could have limped around as the eleventh man, but that would have harmed the team.

"Everyone in sport knows that if you can't play on, the best thing for the team is to get off the pitch."

However, following groin surgery, the former Leeds star is confident of being fully fit to start next term and will be reporting back for pre-season on time.

"I can't wait," he continued.

"I know Liverpool's fans haven't seen the best of me, but now I can start looking to the future and put everything else behind me."

- will he finally be the player we thought we'd bought 2 years ago?

I hope so, but I sincerely doubt it. His confidence will be low, and he'll probably pick up another injury either in pre-season, or early in the Premiership. We'll see.

I would give him until january, but I can't see him playing more than 2 full games before he comes up with another problem. We might get a few million at the mo, and we could use that to get a competant (or, with Rafa's eye, a brillient) player who could be cover for Riise. I just don't see the point in keeping him. I say that we should cut our losses and flog him to some spanish team who want a shirt $eller. We've got Riise, Warnock and Garcia for the left and on recent form (not that kewell has had any "recent" form) They're all better players with real futures, not hasbeens with semi-glorious pasts.

Chalk Harry up as another sorry episode born out of Houllier's latter days incompetance. He doesn't belong in Rafa's plans and I don't think I can stand another season of being :veryangry

with him and :sniffle

because his incompetance cost us our attacks and therefore the matches.

Im optimistic about Kewell this season.

Reason being, Rafa the gaffa has faith in him. Well he must do because hes played in the two finals that we reached this season. I have been his biggest critic off late, an rightly so. We know hes been shiiite an so does everyone in football an more to the point he also knows. Players go threw good patchers and bad patchers. Harrys bad patch is soon to be over.

An you people who are saying get rid off him, will be eating humble pie, when hes playing out off his skin next season.

Make or break for Kewell next season

He's on thin ice and i think even one more bad injury and he's gone. If he can't get a relatively injury-free season under his belt next year then i don't think he ever will. He's on a slippery slope and is on the verge of going down the Jamie Redknapp/Darren Anderton route.

His body language on the pitch has been bad and that annoys me. However its a bit harsh when people accuse him of faking injury

makes a lot of sense - part of his problem seems to have been in his head and IF he gets that straight AND nothing "snaps" he might still be the class player I was hoping for. And I'm not normally the optimistic type! I do agree with what he was saying about his CL final injury - if he was going to achieve anything in that game he had to be 100%, and there wasn't any point him staying on just for the sake of it, when he couldn't run.

I doubt anything, including his ability will change and he needs to be sold, to get him off our 3m a year wages bill.

So, far he has done nothing to warrant a stay at Anfield to see out his contract. He's not bottle, bottles out of challenges, pushed off the ball easily and his head drops.

if you can't motivate yourself on 3million a year you need shooting.

I doubt he can get that much better, and moving to Liverpool was his first taste of a BIG club, and he proved he can't step up.

I say SELL!

Well if you saw him at Leeds you'd know that he CAN get better. And although Liverpool is a much bigger club than Leeds, they were flying high at the time and got to the champ league semi, so you could argue that at the time he was playing for a big club.

People forget that he was actually good for the first half of his first season with us till he started picking up injuries. That proves that he can do it for us, its just a matter of him sorting himself out.

But as i've said before, it really is last chance saloon this time
