As requested by Scottbot, here's a little review of my trip to Istanbul.

Seven of us flew out from heathrow on the monday morning, after a brief stop in Brussels we landed in Istanbul to the welcome sound of a very strange version of YNWA playing on the terminal PA. This was our first indication of how unexpectedly welcome we were about to be made to feel on this trip.

Our hotel was on the asian side, in the old town right next to the amazing backdrop of the blue mosque. We were greeted in the hotel reception by large liverpool flag and knew straight away we had made a wise choice of accomodation. The main bulk of the staff were Fenerbache fans and very pro-liverpool.

The first night we were all a bit knackered so in was a case of a few effes' and get our heads down, good idea as little did we know what a party was to follow over the next couple of nights. Next day was a little sightseeing, sondtracked all the way by chants of "liverpool, liverpool!" ( plus a few milan's) by the locals. Later that night we headed into Taksim square, I simply could not believe how many reds were there (and how few milan!). We headed down what you would class as the main high street off of the square and in the distance heard some serious singing so we homed in. The singing was coming from, you guessed it, an Irish bar! The place was jumping and the crowd outside just kept getting bigger and bigger. Locals were taking photos like they had never seen any thing like it before! Out belted "walk on", "fields of anfield road", "ring of fire" , is was fantastic. Just when we thought it couldn't get any better along came aload of Besiktas fans with a huge drum singing "liverpool! liverpool!" and "f@ck you milano!!". What a night! We then made our way back up to the square to a sea of red shirts. the turn out made you so proud to be a Liverpool supporter.

Match day. Butterflies like you wouldn't believe (well I guess you probably would). Went to the ground early because we'd heard some horror stories about what the traffic was going to be like. The less said about the ground the better! No beer (only amstel malt non-alcoholic) , one programme stall and no real entertainment to speak of until a fantastic concert by dyed in the wool red Pete "HEART AS BIG AS LIVERPOOL" Wylie got the red army's voice primed for battle.

What happened next I'm sure I don't need to tell any of you guys as I'm sure you went through the same rollercoaster of emotions as I did. Surficive to say I'm sure none of us will ever forget that night. And in years to come I will be able to tell my grandchildren "I was there", in my mind I still am.

.. wud like to know how it was in the stadium.. when we were loosing,, the change in atmosphere.. the fight bak and of course the lap of honour and presentation

Come on Murph or Leone.. u must've of sobered-up enuff by now.. to tell us what it was like in the stadium

Cheers Greedo - But tell us more! I also wanna hear more of the crowd. I hear there was a rip roaring scouse proud rendition of YNWA at half-time. The Milanese must have been looking at eachother thinking 'what the fu.ck!'

Walked out of the house looking glum,just to make the wife happy,climbed into mate's car.Slipped on the shades,car sped off to John Lennon Airport,cracked open a bottle of Bud...The party had started..it was Tuesday 1.45 p.m.Check in was the fastest ever and made our way to the bar,picking up my free carlsberg hairpiece.Flight SYC 3323 delayed an hour time for another bevvie...promised wife "No Beer for me my Lovely just plenty of water" :eyebrow

Took to the air 18.35 p.m....only duty free booze available on the flight...Gin and coke..Gin and orange..yuk! but hey I'm on holiday.Arrive in Turkey,get on coach and 60 minutes later arrive at the hotel.........to be cont.(have to feed baby)
