and even if its a knee jerk reaction, is it illegal to discuss over it since this is a liverpool forum? by what you mean 'knee jerk reaction', then all threads should not be started. why is there a specific steven gerrard discussion thread? because he is in liverpool. and thats a knee jerk reaction.

Cant believe Smicers got his own topic for having half a good game in a season, hes sh!te so let it go hes been here for 6 years and not once produced a consistent run of good form, every other time hes come on this season hes looked bad and dont give me that sh!te that he works hard, cos throw any liverpool supporter on that pitch and they will work just as hard.....Also when Smicers contract runs out at the end of the season, will someonw just let me know all the good memorys hes left you with over the last 6 years cos the best i can muster is a last minute volleyed winner against chelsea 3 years ago....what has he done since then? ??? Players like Zolton Gera put the likes of Smicer to shame, this lads come from a foreign country to a poor side in the prem and has looked quality and has proved at west brom that if youve got talented you dont need 2 or 3 years to settle in, that is just an excuse. Good riddence to Smicer id say.
Chopper:Look, you're not still angry at me about the leg, are you?
Neville Bartos : Nah, forget about it.
Chopper : Because I don't know if you remember, Neville, but I had that bloody shotgun pointed at your head. I reconsidered and dropped it down to your kneecap. Remember?

The lads a lovely footballer, always has been. Totally unsuited to English football however. Always was the case and always will be the case I'm afraid. It's only because he's got older and less effective that teams allow him to play now. When he was capable of influencing games, a couple of sturdy tackles were all that was needed to send him retreating firmly back into his shell.
A ridiculous buy from day one in my view.

Smicer isn't the best player in the squad, but he isn't the worst either.  I wasn't against him being in the squad, because he did offer something different...until we got the Spaniards in to add some skill to the team.  I'd let him go now to somewhere he can get regular first team football.  He's done well to come back from his injury.

BTW, I dont think he is slow.  He might be a bit rusty at the moment, but I reckon he's usually deceptively quick.  I've seen him clean through on goal a few times and reputedly quick defenders can't catch him (not that he scored!)

He's taken some stick over the years but I don't remember him ever complaining or biting back, so I'd be inclined to give him a break.

If he was to take a pay cut i would keep him....but i doubt he will do that, he looks like he's off for the last few years of his career to France.
He is not a player that would get into my starting line-up as he doesn't influence the game enough, or score enough goals. But he does a job when he comes on if we are leading games, as he holds onto posession better than the likes of Nunez and Garcia.
I wouldn't be sad to see him go nor would it worry me if he was kept as a squad player for one more season.

He has done nothing to impress me. I really think it should have been obvious after 2 seasons that he'd never make it.

Terrible buy, might do well in France.

Leonmc0708 wrote:OK, I will tell you why, in fact here are a few good reasons:

1) one good game, (or rather half a game) this season, and only just into double figures of good games in six years for £30K per week, (sum total £9,360,000) does not merit another contract.

2) Smicer is now 31, which means he is not going to improve, in fact he will only get older, slower and worse.

3) Loyalty to the lad for one game is blind faith. I wonder if the same blind faith will be afforded to him following a bad game or a defeat. The answer NO.

4) This thread was started (typically) as a knee jerk reaction by members who may have seen him play well last night, however who do not go the game and see him play merely the role of passanger far too many times.

agreed, Smicer has had endless opportunitys to prove himself in the first team and has never even had a decent run of form. It astounds me that a player who has consitently produced so little has been allowed 6 years at our club.

I agree that Smicer played well last night but even though I like Smicer I think it would be best to let him go somewhere else as he isn't getting any younger
