Smicer - Got me confused

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby dawson99 » Thu Apr 21, 2005 8:20 am

is it just me or did smicer look good last night? a good head on old shoulders?

Ive always liked smicer altho hes never really prooved himself at liverpool. Last night tho he seemed to be doing everything right, he was calm, colelcted and playing some good balls. Im not saying hes ever gonna be first on the team sheet but i think he should be kept in the squad as he does give a different angle to the game. Also benitez seems to be playing him a fair bit, and not in the sense of just putting him in the shop window if u ask me.

Just a thought, no doubt will get shot down but wondered what u people thought?

leon obviously does not show any respect to other people's views... and think he's always the perfect example.

Leon, the least you could do is shoot down people with some reasons as to why you think hes not squad material, you said in the liverpool-portsmouth thread about how there is hardly any discussion on this forum and just championship manager style fantasy team selections, well mate this aint a place for 1 or 2 or 3 word answers so from now on make your contributions count yeah

It's called humour boys. Anyone who has read Leons posts for a while knows that this is his style and I must admit it is funny at times. Is it not fair, if Daws' opens with "is it just me?" to reply with "it's just you". It's just banter lads at the end of the day, chill-pills all round.

OK, I will tell you why, in fact here are a few good reasons:

1) one good game, (or rather half a game) this season, and only just into double figures of good games in six years for £30K per week, (sum total £9,360,000) does not merit another contract.

2) Smicer is now 31, which means he is not going to improve, in fact he will only get older, slower and worse.

3) Loyalty to the lad for one game is blind faith. I wonder if the same blind faith will be afforded to him following a bad game or a defeat. The answer NO.

4) This thread was started (typically) as a knee jerk reaction by members who may have seen him play well last night, however who do not go the game and see him play merely the role of passanger far too many times.

leon
not a knee jerk reaction.
just saying he has something to offer the squad and is a good squad player... and hes been injured.
id like to see him get back to it.
yes, hes 31, and not the fastest, but his passing was class and i personally think he should get another season to see what he can do (on the fringes if need be)

agree Leon, if ol' Vladi ain't shipped out in the summer I for one would be surprised and a bit disappointed tbh.

He started a few wekks ago, not sure which team it was (Man City?), and was truly truly awful.

He's past his "best" and is merely a passnger at the club picking up hiw nice pay package week in, week out.

Time for him to go.

Dawson lad, you admit yourself it is knee jerk when you say his passing was class in one game.

Well, I think Smicer has the skill but he consistently under perform. Its better for him to move on as we can have this kind of player replaced easily. Smicer is just not the kind that you can be excited about as you don't notice him on the pitch much. I don't know but he just gave me a feeling of being a floater. Good luck to him though.

but maybe i am too sentimental, just always liekd lil smicer, thought he was harshly treatwed in the past by the media and some fans.
it probably is time to go, but based on what ive seen (ok, one game, lets see mroe) then the guy tries harder than people like kewell ever will

not a massive compliment that, Kewell is another who IMO should go in the summer, sick of him.

get Vicente in on the left wing.  :D
