Sam Allardyce has revealed he would be interested in bringing Michael Owen to Bolton in an ambitious swoop.
The Bolton chief has admitted a top striker is his main target in the summer as he looks to bolster his squad.
Allardyce revealed he would be in the running to sign Owen if he became available at Real Madrid.
Owen's future at Real has been the subject of intense speculation for some time with the England international failing to secure a regular starting place in the team since his move from Liverpool.
Allardyce would love to take the former Liverpool hit-man to The Reebok Stadium, but accepts it may be difficult to persuade the player to make the move.
"If Michael Owen was available, he would be first on our list," said Allardyce.
"You wonder whether he would want to come and play for us and there would be an obvious problem with his wages and transfer fee.
"But Michael Owen is an England international and the best goalscorer we will have for a long time to come. It would be an achievement if were even to consider us.
"We already have two former Real Madrid players here in Fernando Hierro and Ivan Campo, so you could never actually write off the fact we might get a third!
"To have any chance at all, we would have to qualify for Europe. After that, who knows?
"Regular first-team football is important for most players. Money becomes secondary when you are sitting on the bench every week or sat in the stand.
"Michael Owen is a matchwinner. If he is not getting that adrenalin rush often enough, he probably wants it back."

Judge you plank! Why pick on me ya bstd? oh yeah, cos you can!
I'll get you back you pumper
Totally agree with this post.
Not the first time I've said it but Owen is an overrated turncoat. He has lost a yard of pace and is still living on past reputation. Hasn't been at his best since the treble season IMO.
If he came back it wouldn't be long before people were moaning about why we brought back such an injury prone player who can't head, hold the ball up or bring others into play.

Posts like this from knowledgeless idiots who claim Owen doesn't bring others into play (his main strength along with his finishing) and claiming he's mediocre and he only scores goals because the team is build around blah blah ****** blahdy ****** blah blah.
STOP MAKING PATHETIC EXCUSES.
FACT, OWEN'S GOAL AVERAGE PER SEASON IS OVER 20.
FACT, OWEN HAS ONLY FAILED TO HIT THE 20 MARK WHEN HE'S HAD SERIOUS INJURY OR NOT BEEN IN THE TEAM.
FACT, HE'S ONE OF ENGLANDS TOP GOALSCORERS.
FACT, HE GENERATES REVENUE FOR THE CLUB.
FACT, HE HAS THE BEST GOALS TO MINUTES RATIO IN SPAIN.
FACT, HE'S RIPPED TEAMS TO PIECES ON HIS OWN IN THE PAST.
opinion, HE'LL KEEP DOING THAT.
FACT, HE PERFORMS IN BIG GAMES WHEN THE PRESSURE IS ON, HE PRODUCES SOMETHING SPECIAL.
FACT, LIVERPOOL HAVE MISSED A PLAYER OF HIS QUALITY THIS SEASON.
FACT, LIVERPOOL HAVE MISSED HIS 20-30 GOALS THIS SEASON.
FACT, LIVERPOOL WITHOUT OWEN IS NOWHERE NEAR AS GOOD AS LIVERPOOL WITH.
FACT, HE'S SHEER CLASS.
ANOTHER FACT, ANYONE WHO THINGS HE ISN'T HASN'T GOT A ****** CLUE ABOUT FOOTBALL.
END OF ****** STORY YOU PATHETIC KNOW NOTHING IDIOTS!!!
