Owen to return - Miss him or not?

Assuming Owen comes back and Baros leaves

That gives us a primary strike force of three being Morientes, Cisse and Owen, and we must remember that jury is still out with Cisse, I personally reckon he will be good but it has been a strange build up with him being out for the season and weve been desperate for strikers.

That then leaves Mellor, Le Tallec and Pongo.  Mellor IMO is not good enough and Le Tallec and Pongo IMO should be there to fight for their place and primarily as back up

Cisse - Owen are a great pair. So dangerous. However this is what i'd do.

Nando and Owen up front with Cisse behind them, and two fast attacking wingers who can cross and pass. Just drop the ball into that triangle and it will go in quite frequently.

Garcia on the right,can cross or pass inside? sure and contribute a goal or two i'm sure.

is Risse the man who can feed them from the left?

Gerrard Alonso Biscan Hamman, in the center and either or as back-up for the wingers.

Traore should be replaced with someone solid.  In the Finnan mould.

Hyypia looks solid still, has he slowed down?  I'd say there is at least another year in him, however if we are looking to the future, start looking at some young players and keep an eye on the transfer market.

Money, well, sell Baros. Pognolle i've never been impressed with, sell him.

Le Tallec - Mellor should get playing time after the three lads up front have run up the score.

I think Owen with his guaranteed 20 goals for this season would have been the difference between where we are now ans seriously challenging the "top three".

I am not saying selling him was wrong, or that he was indespensable, just that another 20 goals in the for column this season would have helped our cause no end.

agree with leon.  Owen's goals would make a huge difference.  we've always known that michael can bang in 20/25/even 30 goals a year if he's injury free and in the team.  baros makes way for him, simple.  Moro and Owen are the main pairing and Cisse gets his fair whack of games with injuries, players resting,  form dips and alterations of formation when required.  i trust rafa implicitly to be able to make this work.  owen has to accept that every striker today (bar one or two top exceptions, e.g Henry) must share the spotlight.  Look at the mancs with Rooney, Smith, Saha and Horseyhead.  Look at Juve with Ibramihovic, Del Piero and Trezeguet.  The list goes on.  Owen got stuck in a bizarre mess that is Real's club politics.  An idiot knows that Real would be much closer if not ahead of Barca had Owen started regularly up front with Ronaldo instead of Raul.  He's pure quality and he's experienced and proven.  By the time he left Liverpool last season, Michael probably had grown a bit too big for his boots.  He's had his wings clipped a bit this season and maybe appreciates the harsh realities of top, top class football more now - a direction I'm sure we're headed in.  Gone are the days when Kenny and David Johnson or Kenny and Rushy started upfront week-in, week-out.  Get him back, obviously for less than we paid for him (we don't want to look ridiculous) and be done with the striking situation.  It's a quality winger we want (for the left) and two hard-hitting, pacy defenders.

How many players are on you team then.

I make it three strikers, two wingers, four midfielders.

That leaves place for one defender and a goalkeeper

In answer to the topic: Yes lets have MO back for the 15/20 goals he will score.

LOL!!  This is the worst suggestion I have ever heard.  What you are saying basically is that we should be playing 5 attackers.

And Cisse playing in the 'hole'?  Rubbish!  He has never played there, is an out and out striker and his pace would be wasted playing there.

Also the idea of playing someone in the 'hole' behind 2 strikers is that he is the playmaker and most of the attacks are channelled through him, you cannot play 2 out and out wingers in this system or you'd be ripped apart on the break.

I was a big critic of Owen last year as I thought he had gone soft and complacent, but he is a class player.

People criticize his touch, his injuries, his heading etc but while Owen is not a 10 out of ten in anything he is 8 or 9 out of ten in almost everything.

He has always scored goals and always will and I think he's be among the top scorers in England this year had he stayed.

If Madrid were to offer him in a straight swap for Baros I'd bite their hand off.

MO move to Real Madrid did us a favour in we got Morientes, dont think he would be here now had Micheal stayed. Definatley have MO back in a second.

I think it would be great to have Michael Owen back.
Sell Baros(£10mil), Mellor(Well, whatever we can get really) and Pongolle(on loan)

I would also consider playin Djibril Cisse on the wing. The first half hour of the Blackburn Rovers game he looked to be settling down and he was using his pace down the right side. He looked as if he could adjust to that position very well although I would prefer to see him up there banging them in.

This is what I would like the team to be next season:
===================Carson======================
Finnan=========Carragher========Mexes=========Riise
Cisse==========Gerrard========Alonso=========Garcia
===============Owen=======Morientes============

That is only if Owen comes back, if not Cisse upfront with Garcia roght wing, then we will need to strengthen the left side of midfield.

Can't believe what i'm reading, i'd never have that benchwarming judas back. Whichever way you look at it he turned his back on lfc, he wouldn't even give rafa a year to see how things would go wanting to take the cushy option in madrid. Frankly i'm glad hes gone and would be happy to never see him back!!

we playing 443 again ? :D

id lveo owen back, but didnt he leave so he could win things? Now hes seen it hasnt gone as well as expected should we be so quick to bring him back? Personally i dunno the answer but i got a feeling that rafa might not be so quick to bring him back.
We also already have nando, cisse, baros, pongolle letallec and mellor.
Lets say mellor and baros leave in the summer, we still got a load of strikers already.

Im not saying we shouldnt bring him back, just saying it shouldnt be so simple

I am so happy Rafa is manager, and not the forumesr. There is absolutely no way Benitez will sign an expensive injury prone player who hasn't been his best since 2001. That's 4 years ago. Rafa will bury the past anc build for the future. Also one of the reasons why we get a lot of goals from midfield is that Baros and Morientes is stronger, more technical and much much more involved in the build up. Owen never worked hard outside the box, never won headers and duels. His goalscoring ratio was high because all the other players worked for him. I remember the 5 million times i got upset last year when Heskey made all his runs on the wings and Owen (not Heskey) stayed inside the box to meet his crosses. Send a giant to cross the balls to a midget? Owen is not the solution. We have 3 top quality strikers with complimentary skills. Baros (pace, technique, work rate), Cisse (strenght, pace) and Moro (headers, creativity, smartness). We should look to strenghten our team in other areas.
If football is banned in heaven. I'd rather go to hell.
