i`d place keegan above rushie. rush was a great goalscorer but he relied on dalglish`s service a awful lot, and his goals to games ratio noticably tailed off when kenny was past his peak/ retired. kevin whilst a team player was not just about goals, his workrate, bravery and attitude made him a team leader at a time when we were not automatically the best. it was because of the likes of keegan, toshack and hughes that when rushie broke into the side we were already the best in europe. whilst rushie is one of my hero`s i cant help feeling that fowler or owen would have gotten a bagfull in that side too. though as someone has mentioned they`re all cracking players.

Rush was an absolutely fantastic player though mate. Without question the best defensive centre-forward that world football has ever seen. Younger posters will probably not be aware of just how many goals we scored as a result of Rushies 'foraging' when we didn't have the ball. How we've all rejoiced at Nando's willingness to track back, believe me Rushie was a one-man defensive shield, incredible.
Dalglish was the best of the lot though, unbelieveable footballer.

Yes, yes, yes!

Rush was a great player in that he gave everything for the team, making a dozen track backs (at least) a game before sprinting forward when we got the ball again.

Like all great strikers he was selfish in the opposition box, but outside of their you'll do well to some more of a team player.

i agree rush was a superb player but for me dalglish and keegan just edge him out. maybe it`s because i cut a number 7 out of a white sheet and got me mum to sew it on my liverpool shirt when i was a kid.

rush is the best. Can still remember the days (although barely) whenever rush scores.

If rush scores, liverpool does not lose

Anyone know how long that record was on for ?

I know it ended in the coca-cola cup final at Wembley against the ******-nal. Rush scored early doors, Charlie Nicholas responded with two deflected goals and after absolutely playing them off the park we got done 2-1. I was there, about 88 or 89 I think.

Yes, a very bad year. We finished a distant second to Everton, Coventry won the FA Cup, we knew that Rushie was on his way to Italy and we had no European football.

However, great things were just around the corner......

looking at that poll, its too hard a question to answer, im only 19 and i remember robbie fowler on his day was something special, i always remember him scored sh'itloads against arsenal for some reason

I'm not old

and if I'm honest about it my first "proper" recollections of following Liverpool came in the 1985/86 season. Sure, I remember Brucie's wobbly legs and a couple of Souness goals when I was very young, but 1985/86 was probably when I first started really following the team, as by that stage I had figured out the rules and started learning about the players on other teams in Division One.

My regret is that I wasn't born 15 years earlier and got to go to the great European triumphs, but then again, if I had, I'd be as old and cranky as Supersub.

85/86? i used to stand in the `scally pen` behind the kop goal in those days. scarfes had just gone out of style and the must have fashion item was a wooly hat with liverpool on one side and celtic / rangers on the other.

aah memories, if we got a free kick near the box in those days everyone would chant `rambo` for molby to take it.

feck, i remember thinking our side was ****** in THOSE days!!!
even though we were usually top or very near it.
i suppose i was spoilt watching the great sides of the mid 70`s- early 80`s that went before that one. if the last 15 years has taught me anything its that i have had to re-evaluate what constitutes a ****** football team.

I can't understand for the life of me saying Fowler was a better finisher and player than Owen.

Robbie was a better alround goalscorer but was often wasteful and his alround game was very average to say the least. He had better anticipation, flair and vision than Owen but thats it. Owen pisses on him in every other department.

Fowler also wasn't capale of winning games on his own when the team wasn't at its best. Owen done it many a time and in massive games aswell.

Kenny, the best football player I've ever seen in my life. I feel lucky to have seen him in the flesh and watched in awe as he controlled Anfield. Absolute footballing genius.
