Anyone see baros' "goal" last night?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

i havent read all the threads, cos i havent had time today, so apologies if this has already been discussed.

Remember Baros went through and scored with a mighty F*ckin Fine splendid finish, rifled with his left foot from a tight angle?    only to be ruled offside?  and the T.V actually showed it to be onside. Paul Jones may have mae more of an effort if play carried on, but the finish was still sublime, and we may have made something out of the move if play carried on.

BY the way, we look SH*TLOADS better with Baros playing. it was f*ckin obvious last night.
its not the chilli sauce on kebabs that give you ring-sting, its the actual meat. had one without chilli, and still had ring-sting. the chilli's only there to mask the nonsense they stuff inside that bread.

Theres absolutely no question Jim that we looked a different team when he came on. My only slight reservation would be that given Mellors performance, he was always going to make a huge difference. He is though a top class striker in his own right now in my view.

Baros finished that off brilliantly, although Paul Jones looked like he'd already seen the offside flag/heard the whistle so didn't make any attempt to save it. Not sure he could've though, even if he wanted to!

Oh come on bigmick... Top class?

I thought you'd know better than that mate.

Just because he's our best forward doesn't mean he's top class does it.

He replaced Mellor, who in all honesty, had a stinker. As you say he was always going to make an impact.

He is definately at least 2 or 3 levels above Mellor but he's nowhere near the level of Anelka, Kluivert, Reyes, Henry, Rooney, van Nistlerooy etc etc etc.

Imo there are at least 10 strikers better than Baros in our league. As good as the lad is and as much as i love his effort and determination, he's by no means a great player.

stu, unless we can all agree on a player quality classification system we'll have to accept that judgements are subjective.

personally i would prefer to describe baros as excellent.

I think if you look at the records of all the players you have mentioned this season, apart from Henry, Baros has scored more goals per game (he has been out quite a bit this season.   I would say he is an excellent forward and more importantly is improving all the time
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Ten strikers  ???

IMO Baros is just about in the top five

Not many opportunities till this season but dont discount Euro 2004

When it comes to the top three clubs who partners them, Baros has due to unfortunate circumstances heald the flag on his own to a large extent

He is still in the top five scorers in the league

IMO lets see what happens with Morientes joining, they may or may not form a great partnership but with two class players together and a solid midfield I expect his strike rate to improve

Henry IMO is by far the best in the league then Van Horseface but take away Bergkamp etc and you can see a difference

1. Henry
2. van Nistlerooy
3. Reyes
4. Rooney
5. Anelka
6. Drogba
7. Defoe
8. Hasslebaink, Angel
9. Kluivert, Viduka
10. Keane, Phillips, Baros.

I rate Baros as good as Keane and Phillips. At the start of the season i didn't.

In all honesty i think all of those are better players than Baros. Baros may get to the 8th best in the league. But i cannot see him getting better than any of the other players above him ever.

If any good could come from Cisse breaking his leg it is that Baros now knows hes top dog and is better when playing up on his own, Cisse was very similar in style to Baros and they were often in each others way, they definatley need to work on playin together as they looked on different wave lengths most of the time. Hopefully when Cisse is back and Morientes is settled in they will be a threesome to reckon with  Mellor and Pongolle would never get in the 1st team then not that im not thankfull for what they have achieved this season.

Get better soon Cisse
